I thought I would share some pics of my IH 782 with moldboard plow & 982 with my tandem disc. I have IH rear wheel weights ordered and be here this week. I bought this 982 a couple weeks ago and the onan engine runs great with complete tune up I did. The previous owner replaced the rear fenders with ones off a 2072. Im gonna get the whole tractor repainted with new decals. I put new tru power ag tires on back.

dirtcowboy 04-29-2013 11:18 PM

Thanks guys, ive been fixing these 2 tractors up a little at a time and using them for tillage business. Anybody have any thoughts on putting v61 tires on front of 982 after paint of course? I think they would look and steer great but I would like some opinions of people who have those tires.

I've got the V-61's on my 782, and their a nice tire, and reasonably priced.
But I like the tri-ribs on my 1650 better. They seem to steer easier, feels like power steering, and look so darn cool, but they are more money. Personally if I had the choice, I would go tri-ribs. IMO:TwoCents:

Grampie 04-30-2013 05:32 AM

Well since they don't make a tri rib tire to fit a 982 I'd stick with the tires you have on there. I like the traction of the turf tire and don't really care for the look of airplane tires on the front of my tractor. Hey, you asked! Sorry if I offended anyone, just my thoughts on the matter.

yesmar74 04-30-2013 07:33 AM

Very nice...... Got'a love the red ones.

PaulS 04-30-2013 08:54 AM

Hey Bill why don't you tell us what you really think. We have put v61s on one of our tractors but have not had much experience with them as it is currently in refurb mode.

Grampie 04-30-2013 09:18 AM

Paul, your a hoot! LOL!!! When someone ask for my opinion they better be ready for it. I did say I'm sorry if I hurt feelings but they do remind me of aircraft tires. Now some guy's front tires are off the ground quite abit while pulling and plowing and thinking they are doing touch and go's in a plane and thats the reason for likeing them ribs? :bigthink:

dirtcowboy 04-30-2013 06:59 PM

Lol, thanks guys for your opinions, I appreciate the info. I think I will keep whats on the 982 for now cause they are practically brand new. They turn ok in loose dirt but didnt know if v61 were a better "dirt" tire for turning in loose ground. I use the 982 primarily to disc and have to turn in loose dirt but I use my turning brakes and they work great. If anybody else has some info or opinion feel free to chime on in.

Actually Bill, the tri-ribs are a much better turning tire for field work.
We have them on most of our farm tractors, the 856, 1086, M and the off color one. So it's not a look, it's for function.

Grampie 05-01-2013 10:19 AM

Actually zippy1 I'm an old dairy farm boy and I do like TRI-RIB tires. It's the multi rib V-61's that I don't care for on the tractor front. Now on a hay wagon, or forage wagon, or a gravity wagon, ( or airplane ) their fine! the multi rib's don't drag alot of mud & dirt out of the field and on to the road like regular treaded tires do. OK ? :biggrin2:

Understood. I thought you was talkin' bout' the tri-ribs. My bad:biggrin2:

dirtcowboy 05-06-2013 09:56 AM

Thanks for the input guys, I have tri ribs on my 782 & 149 & they do steer like power steering. For now the turf tires up front are fine but eventually I think v61 tires will be on it.

Donovan M. 05-07-2013 10:24 PM

Tri ribs are nice dirt tires, but on all of our farm tractors we have four ribbed tires and they are better.

dirtcowboy 05-09-2013 09:16 PM

In my opinion, I would think v61 tires would turn better in dirt than regular turf tires. Maybe not but being ribbed one would think they would. Plus I like the way the v61 look on the supers.
