Ever seen an Original with Clam-shell style fenders?
2 Attachment(s)
Well, you HAVE now!
I found these fenders off of an old 40 John Deere. They had some wear on them and they were painted yellow (of all colors) over top of the green. They've got some wear and tear on them but the patina matches my Original to a T. I mounted them onto the axles with some 3/4-inch square stock and U-bolts. There was an angled mount on the bottom side that I attached the square stock to and with the U-bolts, they are surprisingly solid. I plan to run a piece of steel or rod between them, like the factory cub fenders used. My brother was there when I bought them and when he saw how they fit the tractor, he said, "I didn't think it'd be that EASY!" They looked small on the big wheels of the 40, but with the bottoms cut off, they fit the smaller tires of the cub just right. Best part is, total cost $40! I like them because they are different. I guess it suits my personality. :biggrin2: |
Nice work Andy. Looks like you've been doing some painting too. You're new addition is coming along nicely

Those look good on there.

Wow that looks really good. I pass on a lot of originals because they are missing the fenders and I just don't like the look. Way to be creative!!! That looks great

The fenders look good on the O. :beerchug:

Yeah, they do look pretty good on there!
|
Looks great. Only Cub fanatics would know those aren't OEM.
|
Nice job! I think they look fine on there. Kinda reminds ya of the clamshells on a bigger Farmall. Great idea.

You got a pretty good eye for what goes with what! This Original looks very neat with the clamshell style fenders.:buttrock:

Thanks guys!
Glad you like it. We've been working on it for some time, fixing many of the little things that the previous owner learned to live with. Spent some time last night getting it charging properly and wound up putting a new bearing in the S/G. it worked okay, just REALLY loud! It originally had lights and I'm considering putting a set back on it. There are a few more things that we want to do to get it working like we want, and then it's time to take it all down and make it pretty! |
I really like that look! Any chance in getting a couple more close-up pictures?
Thanks for sharing, David |
the fenders look good:beerchug:

I've seen fenders like that on pullers and I think on an Allis-Chalmers.....but I don't know if they were stock since a puller owned the Allis....

Here's a few that show how I mounted them and a photo that I pulled from the 'net that shows a set of complete fenders so you can see the bottom part that I cut off. I cut them right where the foot pads meet the fender sides. The foot pads on my fenders were mangled pretty bad so cutting them off improved the property value, which is why I found mine pretty cheap. The way I understand it, they are for a JD 40 Standard. Hope this helps! |
Thanks for showing us, how you did the fenders!
|
...............now I have to add what it is about those style fenders. There is a IHCC 154 Lo Boy for sale just down the road. The Lo Boy just about has the same style fenders as your Original.

Nice clams...

Wanted to show the finished product. Many of the regulars will already have seen this from my other overhaul thread on the "O", but I wanted to add a picture or two here so that others who find this thread later on will be able to compare the look of these fenders without all the oxides and holes in them.

Those look really GREAT on an "original" CC.
Often wondered why IH didn't use that style on the O's. :bigthink: |
Whoa, those are really nice...what a great tractor you made!
