My first cub

Hello fellow cub owners. I just purchased my very first cub a couple of days ago.
I have been patiently waiting the moment to find what I wanted at a reasonable price. I purchased this 1250 hydro for 300.00 bucks. every thing seems to work, but is a little rough around the edges. Motor does not smoke or make any disturbing noises. The carb seems to loosen as the motor runs??? So I took it off, along with the gas tank and muffler. I absolutely love these machines and will enjoy making this a great machine again. Anyways its a start to a new passion and collection. I was so pumped to see there was a Forum for cubs only.
I was doing some research on the serial #. U651726. I think maybe a 1980, or 79
. Not quite sure. I plan on tearing her down and doing some well needed TLC. Love the site. Here are some pics of the 1250.

Nice 1250! It definitely becomes an addiction...a lot faster than you would think. Did you get side panels with it?

Welcome to OCC! Good luck with your 1250.

It didn't come with side panels unfortunately. If I come across a set some day, I might buy them. I was wondering if they can be used from a different tractor, like the 1450 or 1650.

cubby102 01-23-2013 11:40 PM

Yes as far as I know theey can be used from 1000 1200 1250 1450 and 1650 I think they are all the same

That's good to know. Make them easier to find maybe. Those panels will just have to wait anyhow. I need to make her purr first. Then some better tires.

Welcome to OCC

Found a guy in TN selling a set of side panels on C-List, this is his add.

Yeah, I don't find them essential the equation. They came on mine and they were the first thing to come off because seeing what is going on and working on it is that much easier with them off. I don't think they have any structural purpose as mine were simply held on with a spring attaching to both side panels. Tires are much more important. :beerchug:

I have been told that the side panels may assist with engine cooling during operation. I guess if it don't overheat it ain't a problem!! :Unknown:

Thanks for the heads up on the panels. Seems like a good price. Might be a pretty hefty shipping bill, since I reside in Northeast Ohio though.

Cubcrazy 01-24-2013 02:17 PM

Where are you located in Northeast OH?:bigthink:

Congrats on your first IH Cub Cadet! You will soon find yourself bleeding yellow and white! I checked your serial # on the Louisville works serial # by month chart, and it appears your 1250 was built in April, 1979! Hope this helps. Good luck with her! Dave-proud owner of 1970 IH Cub Cadet Model 107, bought by my Great Grandfather new, in early '71.
