Tire question
I am looking for front tires for my 1650 and i am at a point where i have two options that i am looking at I am looking at the three rib tires and the ags. I use the tractor for snow plowing, plowing the garden and mowing now my question is what type of tire is the best for me
ribs. ags on the front aint for nothin but looks unless you have front wheel assist
Right now I have 16x6.50-8 Carlisle Tru-Power Ags on the front of my 1450 that are the same type I have on the rear. They are wearing fine and steering fine. I've added the Super Steer Upgrade, Heim joint tie rod ends and 1" spindles. I really like the tires but since they are NLA in this size, I bought another set of rims and Vredestein 5 Rib V61 Tires. Everything I've read, guys swear by these.....I guess I'll find out. I've got a new set of Firestone 3 ribs in this size too but have never tried them. You just can't wear the same pair of shoes everyday!
I would not go so far as to say that ribbed or ag tires are useless on the front. About anything on the front will work when mowing but when used with a blade or blower you actually get some better steering with a more aggressive tread than with turf tires.

Tri-Ribs from Miller Tire.
Steers like power steering. |
So far my vote is for narrow tri ribs but then you need different rims too. They steer very nice and look more like a big IH. Deestone makes a nice one
V61s on a 1250. :biggrin2:

i was saying to go with the ribs up front. i have the v61's on the front and they do work very well.
I have both, tri ribs and ag's . tri ribs a good for everything you want to do.
and in order for the ags to help turn you need to put them on backwards. |
how well do the v61s work in the snow i was thinking about them as well. I do use my 1650 all year round so i am looking for something that steers better than what is on it. right now it just has what look to be the stock tires on it
the v61's have workd very well in the snow for me plowin. i had the old stock shallow ribs up front and she would just slide. i havent had that happen yet with the v61's. and for the price, you cant beat them.
I dont have the v61s yet . but Id say they would float.
yet another tire to try to decide on that now makes three.
I like the looks of the three rib but not the price the v61s price look a little better but still not sure than the ags they look cool so im not sure what i want it looks like i have a big decision to make |
my .02 take the ag's off the table. they dont help steer in anything. unless you add 100lbs up front the push the lugs down...
I'm putting ags all around on my 149. Deestone 16-6.50s on the front and Tru Power 23-10.50s on the rear. Don't really care so much about how they work as I do how they look. This tractor is strictly for fun. I've got other tractors for real work.
After mounting a couple pairs of front tires and mounting and loading a pair of the tru powers with fluid, I've gained a new appreciation for tire mechanics. What a job. |

That's how I feel. I know the ags are gunna look sweet whether its FWA or not and I wouldn't put them on backwards to save my life. And there still gunna grip better the the old slick ribs or turf savers. The v61s just don't cut it for me for looks |

If you guys are looking for snowtires, these are the best IMO. There carlisle snowblower tires. They grip way better then triribs
those are cool, too. Unusual, to say the least. Probably wouldn't last long on pavement, though, if that's any concern.

this is a 4.00 -8 deestone tri rib on my 782. i personally like the narrow tires they steer SO much easier. but you will need the 3.75 inch wide rims

where can i get a set of the narrow rims like that i am liking that idea even better
Put in a want ad for narrow front rims. You'll need some WF 3/4" spindles, too, as those won't fit a 782's 1" spindles.
would they fit on a cub 1650 which as far as i know it is stock
ag tire rotation

got it--the lug 'chevrons' go 'pointy end hits the ground first wide end trails'.
The tires were banded together for shipping with the rotation arrow sides facing each other... :Forgot: |
