Outrageous Cost of Hydraulic Plow Angle Cylinder

Was watching a angle cylinder for a plow on evilbay and could not believe that thing went for over 240 bucks!!!!! WTH.

My buddy's health is not good and I was trying to get something to help him out with his plow, but the price on that was just ridiculous and I know that they do not come up very often. I was thinking 75 bucks MAX.......but 240...that was just crazy.

I have looked high and low and cannot find any suitable substitutions for those things cuz there is no way that I am paying that kind of cash for an old used cylinder.

Any body else come up with a mechanical way to angle the plow without the hydro cylinder?

steve59 01-04-2013 06:49 PM

I was watching that too Joe and about ShXt when I seen what it brought!! 242.50 plus 19.54 shipping!!!

ksanders 01-04-2013 07:24 PM

I saw that. Did it even have brackets with it?

Something I'm going to try soon is a cylinder they sell for angling on truck snow plows. They make some pretty small ones that look like they have enough travel to do the job. Cost was $60-90 for the cylinder new when I checked on it in a magazine at work.

I was watching that too. No brackets just the cylinder and the hoses with fittings. Can't believe it went for that much.

Man o man..... OAK you are just too cruel.........ROTL LMAO

You have quite a prize there OAK......hang on to it. Would have never ever expected to see a brand new one..........AND IN THE DARN BOX AT THAT.........too funny.

Hey Ksanders, I have looked and looked for cylinders and I cannot find any with the exact same dimensions as the cubby's, and they need to be DA, double acting.
It has really surprised me on how little there is out there on doing a mod on this.
I don't need one of these things myself at all, but it would just be so awesome if I could borrow my buddy's tractor and give it back to him all fixed up with a remote angle of some sort on his cub. Not giving up now though, gonna be keep looking, somebody out there has come up with a better mouse trap.

I was also watching and all ready to bid, but when I saw the price, decided I will make something else work. I am going to look at our cylinders at work again. We had one that was close all the way around, but the ends would not work. Need to see if I can modify this to make it work. If I should come up with an answer, I will let you guys know.

ksanders 01-04-2013 09:08 PM

I have a cylinder on my 1572 blade (homemade) that's actually used to lift and lower the blade using front hydraulics and lift separate from the rear blade or deck. The cylinder would be perfect for power angle and appears to have been purchased new from a truck blade catalog. I'll try to get some pics. It won't have quite the ram length of a factory one but a good substitute.

cub149 01-04-2013 09:23 PM

Is this not the same cylinder? It's been a while since I researched them but I think this has the same dimensions, stroke, etc...

that only a single acting so it wouldn't work if i remember right it has an odd ball stroke or close center lenght i was going to have one made but i found a new complete kit for a good price.

$$$$$$$$ridiculous$$$$$$$$$$$$$ prices out there. I'm looking.

I kick myself many times over & over. :bash2:

I found a local cub 109 for sale & it had a hydraulic set up on it for sale. It ran & hydraulic worked also for $ 300.00 asking price. I hesitated because I was just getting into this cub yellow thing.:bash2:

Naw, I don't need no hydraulics?

I even can't stand thinking about it. He probably would have taken $ 250.00 for the whole she'bang?......................

That won't happen again.:beatdeadhorse:

NIK,

Check this ebay listing out. Item# 150968354402
$179.00 winning bid plus $19.34 shipping and it doesn't even have a blade or lift rod!:bigthink:
I would have sold them the complete unit for half of that!

Just for kicks I checked the Cub price for that cylinder $401.00 someone is doing some good drugs. I see no reason why you couldn’t set it up like the plows for pickups using two single acting cylinders. The plow in the pics is what I modified from a Meyer plow off a Ford F-150 to fit my Kubota BX. The cylinders for it cost me about $80.00 each.

BIGMOZEKE 01-05-2013 10:05 AM

Hey Cub Crazy, I checked out that listing and that was ridiculous.

Plows all day on Craigies list for 100 bucks.

That is one manly plow there Sam.

Leadslingingdaddy 01-05-2013 02:18 PM

Sam

As good as the Supers are they are not up to the task of that plow.

I found a new cylinder at a hydraulic warehouse for $97.00 Almost to a t except for a 3/4 front pin. The lines are 3/8 so you dont need the expensive ORB fittings on it. Same stoke. I just haven't bought it yet because my cylinder is not leaking that bad. Small leak at the front seal.

CADplans 01-06-2013 08:55 PM

I wanted a very special cylinder for a 3pt lift on another brand tractor.

I simply found a too long cylinder and:
extended the cylinder
cut the cylinder tube to length
drilled and tapped a hole in a disc (for the hyd connection)
welded a rod to the disc with a cross drilled hole for the pin
welded the disc to the tube (while the rod was extended)
cut the rod to length
drilled a pin hole in the rod
installed the cylinder

Make one.
