after using her for the weekend i know it needs a carb rebuild. will not run good off 83 pumped gas bt will run good on vp 112 fuel. and the head gasket is alil leaky. ordering the parts this week.

The grill guard is really cool!

CadetTY 12-30-2012 09:33 PM

Some day when i restore it i think im going to keep the grill gaurd bt add some mesh to it. I like it to.

Anyone give me info on the tag readings i got off the tractor and how i can learn how to read them?

The tractor was built in dec. 68.
K301 denotes 12hp, the A means it has a special oil pan.
The 47 on the spec# denotes K301 (12HP) The 3 numbers and letter after the 47 are the specific variation to the engine to meet OEM specifications.
The D in the serial# denotes 1968 and the remaining numbers are factory code for line and shift at the factory when the engine was assembled on that day.

Hope this helps.

If some one would make race gas aftershave I would buy a gallon . The 124's are good ol TUFF tractors . Take care of it and it will take care of you. :beerchug:

She will be getting a very good servicing soon! I like to mix 112 in my fuel. Its kind of like gas treatment (no ethanol) and keeps my tractors running healthy and strong.

Not to get off the subject but............................?

I'm only asking cause I have NO knowledge of the subject matter?

Can high octane like race gas cause any problems to a simple kohler 10/12hp. Motor?

Like run to hot? Because of the increased pressure? Or does racing gas do that?

To fast?

Don't know?

Nik

Mlohss 12-31-2012 06:21 PM

My dad always told me to run 87 in kohl ears... Anything else makes them run too hot. He's bee overhauling kohlers for 30 years, so I'll take his word for it;);)

cmatthew 12-31-2012 06:39 PM

special means the deep oil pan. connecting rod has the longer dipper.

CadetTY 12-31-2012 10:21 PM

my dads been building kohlers for 20 years and the vp fuel guy i get my fuel from says 112 isnt enough to do any harm and never had an engine over heat. its mixed half and half. i mow my lawn wth a 782 wth half vp 112 and half pumped 83 no problems mowing for 2 hours plus.

CadetTY 12-31-2012 10:22 PM

vp 114 you will run into problems. talk to a vp fuel dealer they will tell you.
