That "O" really looks nice, very little rust that I can see and good paint coverage. This cub must have been well-kept over the years. What a find!
|
the PO told me when he found it , it was in a woods with a tree growing up threw a hole in the deck. he did what he could , rebuilt the carb, good gas tank , new oil and what not.
it fired up and has been running good for about 6 years. |
You did really well on the O, Doug. :beerchug:

thanks Allen

Here is a question; the deck intrigues me. I don't know that much about the decks for the originals, but I do know that you have the timed one (?) and that it is operated by the lever that is next to the pulley (that you moved in the video.) With the deck and belt installed, the center pulley spins when the engine is running. You push the lever down on the deck (w/ right foot?) and it engages the blades. How then do you stop the mower deck?
Thanks! |
You pull up on the lever with the toe of your foot to disengage.
It's a primitive design relying on a slack belt to disengage. If the center pulley is spinning, so are the blades. |
Like Bill said, lift the lever to shut off the blades. there is no clutch on the engine, just a pulley. so the long belt from the engine and pulley on the deck spins all the time.

They are primitive and dangerous. Every one I've seen would keep spinning. Even a slight temp or humidity change can keep them from disengaging. |
if the right size belt is used , it'll disengage every time. I'll know more come May/ June. if I still have it.
I turned the blades by hand. it'll take more then a loose belt to spin it. Id say it takes a few hp to get it to spin up to speed. that 70 I was looking at a year ago had a deck and it about stalled the engine trying to get it up to speed. I know not the same , but just as old technology. |
