Project 125
7 Attachment(s)
We got the original put to bed for the winter today and need something to fill it's place in the shop, so the 125 stepped up for a well needed makeover.
I picked it up this last spring and never did anything to it but park it. My idea was to use it with the tiller instead of the 123, being it has the hydraulic lift. But before that can happen it's in need of some refreshing, extensive refreshing! The pump leaks pretty bad. Drive plate hub assembly, notice how the PO covered that up. He wrapped it with black tape and smeared dirt on it, clever. Also has some oil leaks on the engine and bad head gasket. Needs a seat and some work to the steering. Check out the 3/8 bolt in the drag link! Got to love the PO fixes:bash2: but other than that it's pretty good:biggrin2: Started off today by removing the engine and pump, I'll pick at it here and there till it's up and going, now onto the pics. |
Looks like you got a good start on it
|
Todd,
The 149 has about 3/4" slot in the drive hub, yours is almost new.Looking good but you should not use the muffler pipe to pick up the motor. The pto getting some new parts?. That is going to keep you busy for a while. |
Keep the updates and pics coming, Todd! :beerchug:
|
Good start, looks good. Keep the pictures coming.

Or should I make a puller bracket and just pull a head bolt and use that then? The pto worked fine when I picked the tractor. It had a thrower on it that worked good. But it could use a new thrust and wear button. Thanks |
Todd your off to a great start!:beerchug:
|
Sorry but I agree about strapping to the muffler piece. Don't want to crack that off....
|
Nice work on the tear down. I wonder if the PO was just trying to keep the pin from falling out instead of using a clamp or wire, and not trying to hide anything.............:Unknown:
|
Looks like a good project!
I'm on the search for a 125 lol |

Got a little done today, more tear down.
It's a little dirty after all these years, but wiring seems good for the most part. |

It's warm out side here today, so I figured no better time to get the 125 cleaned up. Got the Kubota out for the lifting help, and cleaned the 43 years worth of gunk off.
See now that the trunnion needs attention also. Why can't I ever get one without needing trunnion work?:bash2: Oh yeh, most PO's just run em':biggrin2: |
The pump looks a lot better now. Great job.
|
Nice work Todd!:beerchug:

Is that a mother Kat picking up her cub? Just asking! :biggrin2:
|
Great job, Todd!
|
Thanks guys. See what the shoulders say about what get's done tomorrow. Ifin everything goes as planned I should get the trunnion out and fixed. Don't know nuthin' about the seals in the pump. Where to get them, which ones to get, nuthin' anyone rebuild theirs, or put in new seals? It works fine but has a leak or three. Ain't at the hoses, but now it's clean and maybe able to get a better look at where the fluid came from.
|
no pictures, but....
Well I did get the trunnion welded up in the corners and filed square. Also picked up new springs and end caps.
Question on lug bolts. I'm in the house and not going out to get a picture tonight, so I hope I can explain myself that someone can understand. My wheel lug bolts have threads on both sides, is this what is used for dual wheels from the factory? I just never seen this before and was curious. Duke sent me a rebuild of the hydraulic lift pump, how to. But most of the O rings are N/A, so I'll have to check for alternitives. (thanks Duke) |

They are not studs, they are as a regular lug bolt with threads on both sides. I found them on Parts Tree, they were made for factory duals. Thanks:beerchug: |
Nice project Zip! NF are the best! lol! Hope to see what your hyd. pump is about. I have one myself I got from a certain OCC Member. 4 Speed did a rebuild and he says those square o rings are regular o rings. Very nice to see someone like yourself repairing and restoring these great tractors! Happy Holidays to all!

:WWP: Next time you get into the shop that is.:beer2: |
Todd,
I just cant keep up with you! Hadn't been on here for a while, figured you were done with projects for the holidays. But here I find the O tucked away and a 125 has entered our lives:) Nice work on this tractor. It could be the inspiration for for me to work on the 125 that I have some day! Or I should just sell it to Sam:) Amazing what a power washer will do to clean these units up. Nice work! Merry Christmas, Regards, Chris |
just for you Duke

Pulled the steering shaft out of the 125 today. Found out it's not all to bad.
Bearings are all intact, and seems that the cam follower has been touched up once before, but the adjusting plug has seen it's better days. The PO had it turned in further than any I've seen before. So I had to beat the daylights out of it to get it out. So it will need replacing. I also noticed it still has the original cooling fan yet:biggrin2: |
Appreciate the pics and update, Todd!
|
Looks goos Todd!
My 123 had the metal fan but i forgot the put a bolt in the shroud and the shroud broke it lol |

Dug into the engine today. Wow, you never know what you'll find from PO's past work:bash2: Does anyone know the length of the correct head bolts off hand? I know there are two different lengths, the shortest one's are fine, but I'm thinking somethings wrong that ain't right with this spacer thing:bigthink: (nuts?) Head was obviously off at one time, but looks as if the piston is original, but the exhaust valve looks to have been replaced somewhere down the road. Top of the head seems darked than usual, almost like the exhaust valve is leaking??? Ideas? And the top of the piston burnt? Ideas? Cold outside, but nice and warm in the shop! |
Todd,
By looking at your first post when I yelled at you about the strap.:biggrin2: I saw that the head is different, so is the motor, that would not be correct when the 125 was new Looks like the po replaced the head with a high boss head from earlier one from a 100/122. As far as I remember there are 2 studs, to hold the heat shield on, and the L bracket to lift the motor, and the rest are 1 1/4" grade 5 bolts, or they are all bolts. Clear as mud? |

Well that really makes the water muddy now! So what should I do with what I got? I didn't get to run it much, basically loaded it and un-loaded and parked it. It did seem to run ok if I remember correctly. Your suggestion? (easy now) |
