IH 782 repowered with Mag 18
Ok I really thought I was going to send this early 782 to GA but still having sellers remorse over selling the last IH 782 to Allen. I talked to Todd and and started looking for a replacement engine for the 782. Adam sent me a CL link and I was able to get a Sears 6000 GT that has a good running Mag 18. I've pulled the Mag 18 and got to pull the blown KT 17 soon. The blown KT 17 will be going to Todd in GA.
My plans are to have a working PTO in case I ever need it. The Sears had a brand new electric fuel pump so I'll use that as well. At some point I'd like to add a rear lift to it but that will happen some time later. I also plan on trying to get some shine back into that IH red paint!:beer2: Here's some pics of what I'm working with. Attachment 30581 Attachment 30582 Attachment 30583 Attachment 30584 |
Looks good duke! Both of our latest pickups have had blown kt's. I'm guessing your's was a series I, mine was a series II

Good luck on the repower, buddy!

What all needs to be redone to rewire this to the 782 switch? I want to use the fuel pump off it's toggle switch hidden under the hood so it's a nice and clean install.
The 782 is missing the tins around the muffler what tins do I need to locate for this conversion? Thanks! |

Nice 782 Duke!:beerchug: Tins from a 1811 or just about any GT that style with the mag should work for around the muffler.

Looks like a great project. That is going to be a nice set up when you get done!

Duke
I like your idea about using a toggle switch for the fuel pump. Nice thing about going that way is that you can turn the pump off and let it run out of gas so you don't have gas sitting in the float bowl to go bad. When you are ready to run it just flip the switch, let the pump fill the float bowl and light her up. The 2182 has an electric pump and I just turn it on for a few seconds before I crank it, hit the starter and it lights off right now. |
nice work duke:beerchug:

This is the trade ratio 6 Narrow Frames = 1 Super 5 Wide Frames = 1 Super So your all good to go Buddy. :biggrin2: |
Ok got side tracked watching The Game yesterday. I have one last engine bolt to remove. It's the one under the starter.:bash2: I'll get it tho.:beerchug: It had the engine replaced with series II. I guess some of the PO's replaced the engine at least twice.:bash2: The blown engine is going to Todd in GA.:beer2:
The wiring harness is dated Sept. 1979! I took a pic of it but the flash went off and you can't read it but I'll get one without flash today.:beerchug: On to the pics.:beerchug: Blown KT series II and the MAG18 that's going in it. Attachment 30629 Attachment 30631 |

I still need to figure out what if any thing I need to do to wire this up.:bigthink: |
Duke
You have been on OCC almost all day. I know because about the only thing I did today was watch the Formula 1 race and check what was going on here on OCC and you have been on as much as I have. Turn the computer off and get your lazy butt to work. It won’t fix itself. I'm sure Roland can send you a wiring diagram. Or you can haul it up to Galax and in a couple hours it will be running. If I wasn’t waiting for parts I would have the rear finished for the 2182. :biggrin2: |
I like your thinking, guys!

You noticed that Duke is now signed off ? LMAO :biggrin2: |

I had to pull the drive cup that goes with the sears and put on the cub drive cup. I've got to do the wiring and install the firewall. I'll clean the gas tank as well.:beerchug: Install the battery and take it for a spin.:beerchug: Once safe I'll let Evan break it in for me.:biggrin2:

I'm thinking about putting the KY breather on it to make it look more like stock.
|
I like the breather idea , your like me. I'll get to it , when I get to it.
