Fixing Leaky Rear Dribbles
6 Attachment(s)
Had a fun day working on my 2182. Got to use the Haban easy deck removal tool. Makes taking the early style Haban decks off a breeze. It’s a little pricy but it works awesome. Then I pulled the rear and pump out. I thought the cork gasket was the cause of my oil leak but now it looks like the seal on the trunnion shaft is shot. So not only do I have to replace the cracked front cover but I have to disassemble the pump to replace the seal. At this point I have decided to replace every seal and be done with it. I have a couple ideas on how to beef up the mounting for the fragile aluminum rear that is prone to breaking. Have to see how that goes. Got the rear cleaned up, on the bench and ready for surgery. :beerchug:

:biggrin2: I would almost equate that lifting equipment to cheating, but only because I am envious. :beerchug:

I'm old, I have things that hurt that I didn’t know I had a few years ago, power tools make life easier. :biggrin2:

Do those tractors have rear troubles as well. I thought with the beefed up axle tubes they may have also addressed the "loose rear" problem. I see u have the yellow rear cover plate, I heard that is big help to stop twisting of the frame. I have that same rear and axle tubes in one of my 2072's and it seems to stay tight. Keep us posted of your upgrades. Dave

This girl has been run hard all her life. Pretty sure it was in a commercial lawn service application before the zero turns became the rage. It had been traded in for a big zero turn. One of the front mounts is broken. I have a cover to replace it. It will get some needed TLC and enjoy a life of leisure.Pic is the broken mount.:beerchug: |
Great pics, Sam!

Sam bummer on the broken mount.:bash2:

Can the casting piece be heli-arced back in place. I have one that looks just like that.
A friend has a Super he kept breaking bolts in the rear housing. He fabbed an aluminum plate that captured the two bolts in the housing at the rear and then bolted to the frame under the foot rests. Didn't work but he tried. |
Looks like a fun project:biggrin2: dads 1811 was really bad when I got it, you would step on the tractor and it rocked back and forth on the rear end, lol. Someday I might do a cast iron conversion on it, but the new rear it staying tight, just check the bolts once in a while. :beerchug:

I have a good front cover to replace the broken one. The cover needs to come off anyway; the PO used bath tub silicone the last time they were inside it. I'm thinking about a steel angle across the top connected to the two bolts that go into the front cover and then bolted to the frame and maybe an additionally support at the back using the two tapped bolt holes next to the dipstick tube and also bolted to the frame. Probably overkill. |

Got the rear apart, cleaned it up somewhat. Every one of these that I have worked on has a buildup of nasty stuff from condensation in the bottom of the axle tubes so since this is my own tractor I decided to drill a couple oil return holes in the main case to allow the condensation to drain into the bottom of the trans circled in red. This should allow for better results when changing the oil, or it will blow its guts out. Hope to get the gear case re-assembled in the next day or two. Need to order seals and then I’ll open the pump. One thing that I find odd is that the pump does not have the hole in the bottom for a case drain. Have any of you guys seen one without the drain hole? The gasket and the front cover do have the hole.

Got the gear case for the 2182 pretty much finished today. Pulled the carrier out, ran a tap through all the bolt holes. Cleaned it all up and put it back together. Ended up taking one shim out of the carrier. It was way too loose. I can finish it as soon as I get the axle seals. My dealer is closed today and I’m guessing they will be closed tomorrow. Still need to order the seals for the pump. At least it’s coming along. I used lock tite on every bolt and a dab of silicone under the bolt heads where they go through the axle tubes into oil. All the mating surfaces got a thin film of silicone. If it leaks after this I give up. :beerchug:

Won't get anything more done till Monday. Cub dealer has been closed since the 21st for Thankgiving. Did get a little something ordered for the 2182 from Aaron at Xtreme. No pics and I'm not saying till the order shows up.
I like the Brown Truck :biggrin2::biggrin2: |

The seals for the rear end showed up today so I finished that up and then took the hydro apart. Now it’s wait for parts again. :biggrin2:

Looks great Sam!

That looks awesome, Sam!

Got all the seals except 1 for the pump, got it back together. Hope to have the last seal tomorrow so I can get the whole thing back in the tractor. Not an overly difficult job to re-seal one of these. Read the manual, take your time and make sure everything is spotless. Guess I’ll find out if I did it right. :biggrin2:

Sounds good Sam!

Good luck, Sam!

Well I got the last seal today. It's back in the tractor with 2 bolts and the transmission jack holding it in place. Hope to get it running tomorrow and check for leaks.
Pulled that pump apart that was on the rearend that Duke gave me. Can't see any damage at all. My guess is the filter plugged and the PO thought it was bad and changed the complete rear and pump. They did use silicone instead of a case gasket, gotta love silicone in the wrong places. Think I'll overhaul it for a spare for my 1640. Looks like all it needs is a gasket and some cleaning.:beerchug: |

Looks great Sam! Need to start digging into the 1782 next week, it really needs the oil and filters changed. Where you get the paint for yours?
|
Ben
I had my buddy that has a body shop about a 1/4 mile from me paint the fenders and foot pads. OK job but not show quality and the color is a bit off but he only charged me $100 to do all 3 Supers. |
Great Job. I had fun following this ,your pictures made it great. Dave

Question, where do you find depends large enough for a super?
