No steering on 682 after attempting to adjust. PLEASE HELP!

So I am new here, will do formal introductions later. Right now I am freaking out cause I am afraid I F&^%ed up my steering attempting to adjust it.

I found this pic to use to explain. The silver nut on the bottom of this steering box. I could not get off for nothin, so I had a stupid idea to put an impact wrench on it to take apart & see what I can adjust. Well now I have no steering at all. What did I mess up?

Thanks

Scot :Welcome2:

I had to edit your post. We're a family friendly site so please watch what you type.

You either have too much play or it won't move. Which do you have? What the nut is attached to is the cam follower and it needs to be taken out and taken to your grinder. Chuck it up in a 1/2 drill and spin the cam follower while grinding it. Use some PB Blaster or hot wrench to help break the nut loose.

Looks like you've seen the rebuild guide as your using the image from the site.

Well I messed with it for a while & got it to work. Put it all back together & seems to work fine, it's a little tight when I get it all the way to the left.

Thanks,
Scot

Sorry I was freaking out. Thought I had ruined it. I had no steering, the wheel would spin & spin & spin. Then I worked on it & then the wheel wouldn't turn at all. Worked on it some more & got it working again. So I decided to put it back together & leave it alone.

I will do an official "New to the board" introduction soon. Gotta run to the store with family & get stuff for next week. But the short of it is I now have a Cub Cadet 682 (not sure exact year), has just under 800 hrs on it. Not sure if that is on the frame or just on the motor, it is on it's second 17hp twin Kohler motor. I wanted something smaller & something with regular clutch & gear shift, never experienced hydro drive. But I love it. Only complaint I have with it is I wish it were foot controlled instead of by hand.

Now I am on the search for a couple of them that are in way worse shape than this one, I want to build an articulating 4x4 one.

Great looking 682 Scot!:beerchug:

That's darn good lookin' tractor. As for the hydro control handle, the only time I find it un-handy is backing a trailer, kinda hard to look back with both hands forward.

Welcome to OCC!:beerchug: A nice 682 you have there, where in VA are you?

I'm near Smithfield, just across the James River Bridge from Newport News.

Seeing that this is a sweet IH 782 I moved it to the correct place.:beerchug:
