Hy-Tran vs. Competitor
Hello, I found this Case IH Trans-Hydra fluid at the store I work at, I can get it for $42 for 5 gallons,
http://www.truevalue.com/product/Hyd...Gals/41109.uts I know there are some of you out there who are die hard Hy-trans fans, but honestly my CC dealer is a ripoff and no one really deals with him, I am thinking this stuff is pretty close to Hy-Tran. Let me know your thoughts, Thanks! |
I doubt it encapsulates water like HyTran does...I have never seen a generic 'equivalent' fluid that does.
Do you have a Case heavy equipment dealer nearby? They carry HyTran, and it should be cheaper than through Cub Cadet. |
A reputable IH mechanic of 40+ years told me that any trans fluid is ok, even the stuff from TSC so I'm sure it'd be ok. If I could afford it I'd put in Hy-Tran no question if it were me.
|
I use the NAPA brand of Hy tran in my 582. and the IH stuff in my 125 & 882 just because I got it half price at a fleMarket.

Okay, I understand. I went to Case's website... no dealers within 50 miles. And Cub cadet Dealers want my left arm for some, Sorry... but this comes down to a point of reality... I am not breaking the bank for a tractor that can have its rear end replace for $50. I hate to say it, but its the truth. I know most of you will cringe at hearing me say that, I love these Cubs, but reality has to set in at some point. I will check out the Napa Stuff.

the way some talk about the IH Hy-tran , you'd thing they are a sponsor for the stuff.

No, but when people praise something as much as everyone, not just you Matt, does it makes you wonder if people are in on the profit sharing for the product or something. I understand that it is a good product.... but darn. Clearly, this is not the case I would think.
I really do appreciate your input as well as everyone elses, but as stated in my first post... I know there are a lot of diehard Hy-Tran users and wanted alternatives... Rear Ends are relatively cheap, I just want something to lubricate the gears. I do not have access to Case dealers, and we are currently boycotting our CC dealer. |
Got any JD dealers near you? Buy Hy-Guard. Same thing as Hy-Tran. :beerchug:

I Agree,
but you will catch heck for saying that, Ha,LOL! |
OK for me Hy-Tran is good stuff. Is it worth the $$$ no. I change my oil and filter every year. We are talking maybe 50 hour of run time. I used to run a concrete operation and we used Mobile 1310 in our Sundstrand pumps and got 20,000 hours out of them but we changed the oil and filters every year. Hy-Tran is worth it if you are going to neglect servicing your stuff. Not many of us on this forum do that. Just my 2 cents.
|
I am pretty OCD about service, I do my oil annually and plan on also doing my hydro at least every other year (my cubs don't do much work, they really have an easy life) MAYBE 20 hours a year.... and that has to be a year with ALOT of snow since both of my mower decks make alot of noise and dont use them. :beerchug: Thank you for your input!

Hey Cory
I know it's a bit of a haul for you but when I lived in tax you to death CT New Town Power Equipment was a good Cub dealer. Mac |
Thank Mac, I will check them out. They are about 45 minutes away from my school. :beerchug:

Well, I consider the fact that he's got a high clientel of farmers in a 100 mile radius easy that personally ask for him when they need something repaired, call him up at home on his days off because they don't trust just anyone working on his stuff, AND I've seen first hand for 28 years the success he's had because he knows what he's talking about, but blah blah blah I'm not going to use his advice when it comes to a 40 year old Cub Cadet. |

I use the HyTran spec fluid from Tractor Supply. Usually get a 5 gallon bucket for $35-$40 when it's on sale. I've not had any issues. I'll agree that if you are using your machine daily or in a commercial environment, it makes sense to use HyTran for the properties that Matt stated, but for the homeowner usage and maintenance the 'Generic' stuff does fine. My mid-80's 1862 is still going strong (knock on wood!) and I haven't seen any negative effects when I open her up for a change or in operation.

Here's my take on the situation:
First of all, if you ask for someone's opinion and experience on something like Hytran, and they give it to you, don't turn around and rake them over the coals for their opinion. If you don't like an answer for something, don't ask. Second of all, I have larger IH and Farmall tractors. In the big tractors, I use the Farm and Fleet equivalent of Hytran cause they take 15-20 gallons of the stuff, $$$$$$$. On my cubs, I buy and use only Hytran from my local IH/Cub Cadet dealer. I feel I'm money ahead by biting the bullet and putting in Hytran and I'm not made of money, either. Most IH dealers have Hytran in bulk containers and if you take your own, clean container, they'll pump you out a gallon or five gallons for a cheaper price than buying the premeasured Hytran. FWIW, my two cents worth and opinion. :biggrin2: |
As the old saying goes "you get what you pay for" and I am not made of money either. But I've heard enough from those that have had bad luck with other types of hydraulic fluid in their tractors, and that's enough for me to stick with Hytran.
I pay a little more for parts also from my dealer, than I could get elswere, but it's sure nice to buy local, and help keep their lights on. Because without my dealer nearby, I'd have a long haul for parts. |
