The Collector's Dream-Just got an 800!
I finally found the tractor I've been looking for to complete the collection in my eyes. I just traded another tractor for the 800 here this evening. It needs some work, but the guy who owns it is a super nice guy and was super honest about it. We were both looking to give one another's tractors a good home, so it's a done deal! Im super excited! Pics wont happen for a while, but trust me, I'll get them!
It is mostly complete, but it is missing the three crucial things...small starter, air cleaner for sure, possibly the muffler box. I don't care, I've always wanted one and I can wait for the stuff to show up. It needs an overhaul, which I can do. It has sideshields and a deck. It is pretty straight and ready for a restoration! |
All I gotta say is " it didn't happen without pics"
Congrats on your 800. Mine is still sitting in the same spot since I bought it.Too little time and not enough $$$$ |
Congrats on your 800!
|
Lew,
Like yours, I'm afraid this one will most likely sit for a little while. It might be one I could get running and see how it sounds. The owner says it needs overhauled but I may stick the engine in just to see what it might need. I'm fully aware that it is missing very hard to come by things. Its also one of those things where you never thought you would find one till you least expect it. Maybe I can get the pics from the owner to show it off! |

Here are some pics off the ad. It has a notch where someone cut a place for the bigger starter. I might be able to take a junk frame and cut a patch peice out and weld back in there. Overall it is not too bad of shape.

Congrats on the 800 find. When I was looking for one, it took me about six months to finally find one and was excited to get it home. I picked it up from MattG here on the forum. I've since added a creeper and rear PTO and unfortunately, it too sits more than I'd want. Guess I should get her out and stretch her legs. :biggrin2:
Looks like a great basis for an 800 restore. They did hack the frame up. All a fella had to do was trim the rolled over lip to get the bigger starter to fit. :bash2: That looks exactly like the one on CL this past summer. Did ya get it down by Mt. Pleasant? |
Congrats on your 800!
|
Josh,
You would be correct, it is the one from Mt. Pleasant. I saw it this summer and I thought it sold and I was kicking myself. But, it happened to re appear yesterday and I didn't waste my time getting to it. I'm very excited about it. I say this very lightly, but I may have just obtained my last Cub! :beerchug: (we all know how that goes though) |
Congrats on your "new" 800. Dreams do come true:beerchug:
Question though. What makes an 800 unique? Is it a rare tractor, hard to find, low production numbers? |
The Cub Cadet 800 is the lowest production tractor ever made. 2345 total units were built. It is kind of like the 169 where the 800 has a specific starter, muffler box, and air cleaner I believe. (correct me if I am wrong).
|
cool ,,, congrats on the 800.
|
Congrats on the 800 score!:beerchug:
The 800 also has a specific muffler also. |

(congrats though!) John |
nice what a good find:beerchug:
|
Thanks guys! Hopefully going to get it home in a few weeks. I wouldnt mind seeing some pictures of 800's to see these other parts that I my need.
|
Nice find on the 800! I know I would like to find one!
|
Here's pics of my friend Tommy Hooper 800 I picked up for him. CADPlans got another one that I brought back for Tommy. Both have all the correct parts.

When I saw that 800 earlier this year, I called the guy, but didn't pull the trigger due to the missing parts and frame hackjob.
The muffler box is the same as the other quietlines. The aluminum cast piece where the muffler box bolts onto that bolts to the motor is 800 specific. I believe the electric PTO is 800 specific as well. Some of the older John Deeres had the 8 horse AQS in them. Can't remember the model number off the top of my head. I've heard these have the same air cleaner setup that would work on the 800. |
For me, its not about having all the correct stuff. It dosent matter to me if it has it or not. I WILL find it eventually. Its still an 800. Yes, this one needs work, but its ten times better than having it hacked up as a puller. The frame can be fixed, parts can be found. Everyone seems scared, especially with 169's, 86's, and 800's when they don't have original parts. Yes, its cool to have them, but people need to start looking at the bigger picture. It's rare in itself since its one of 2345 made (less than that now for sure).
That's just my .02 on that deal. Josh, you wouldn't mind showing me some in depth pictures of this specific stuff would you? That way I can begin my search? |

Here are some pics of my 800 and the original parts. The 800 is sporting it's original paint and tires. Not the best pic of the muffler, but didn't wanna tear apart the muffler box. Someone probably has a better pic. The cast aluminum piece that fits on the motor is shown in the one pic. Also shows the electric pto. Couple side shots of the 800 and a group photo (missing 3 not in the pic). The 800 only parts do come up for sale on epay every once in a while, but usually are spendy. If you get Red Power Magazine, there was a guy in Western Iowa with an extra 800 motor for sale. Grab your wallet cause anything I've priced from him is sky high. Last 782D I priced from him he sold for $4000 cause it had a 3 point on the back!! :biggrin2: Good luck in your search. BTW, don't know who's busting your chops about the 800.
|
Josh,
Thanks for the pics. I can now see that starter is something odd. Oh well, the most fun is the search. There are lots of people who get on my case about buying basket case tractors. I just like proving them wrong when I finally whip them out of the shed and use them :beerchug: |

Here is the pic of the muffler for the 800.

Any time I see or hear of a cub being parted out or hauled off to the trash meister I feel like screaming DON'T DO THAT, THEY ARE NOT MAKING THESE ANY MORE.
|
I agree.... I hate to see them hacked up, particularly when they're serviceable.

Cubcrazy, thank you for the picture of the 800 muffler. I believe that this one has one, and I think it has the electric PTO also.
PaulS, I know what you mean. I saved a complete rustbucket 70 a few years ago and got totally criticized for doing so. I repainted it, and it runs and functions just fine (thanks to about three donor tractors). But it was worth it. Personally, I think any collector or enthusiast should experience a Cub Cadet project that is in-depth. It helped me learn a lot about their parts and how they are assembled and what to fix. Here's a before and after pic of it. |
Congrats on the rare bird - I mean Cub. Gotta love the feeling of finding one that you've been looking for! :beerchug:

Mine only has the muffler. I dont think it has the other three items. But, I think I can find them eventually, I have some sources.
|
A friend of mine stopped at my house Sunday. He was on his way back from a plow day and had a 800 in the bed of his truck. He said they plowed with it and it did pretty good. That 800 will go right along with the other 5 800's he owns.

I thank one is all I need I like other cub cadets
|
I agree, I think I'm good with one 800. But, good for him!
