149...work in progres
I finaly got back to working on my 149 a few days ago. I did some body work a few months ago on the hood. I swaped the rear tires with my 110 JD patio, and put a set of Titan ag ribs on the back but I havent had any luck finding the skinny front tires that i want. I am just about done with the paint job now i will try to get a few pictures up in a day or two(i have been working till dark and my camera doesnt like to work with no light). I found a set of cat 0 lift arms for it, the guy I got them from said they were for a Sears but with a litle time and a few welding rods I think I can make them work. I also need to redo my stack, the previous owner thought 1 on each side looked good but I am going to run bolth into 1. There is also a few other things (front mounted spray tank, work lights, hyd hookup in rear) but that is for another day for now I will be happy with the new paint job. BTW it is IH Red, same paint patern as a IH 1066 row crop.

Looking forward to your pics! :beerchug:

Looking good fhadderton

That's going to look nice! Can't wait to see the finished product.

I finished off all the parts that were geting a coat of red, and did almost all the white. The only thing left to paint white is the stripes on the hood. I also odered the decal kit today, I will post a few pictures in the morning. I came across an old original IH fender mount radio a few days ago, if I can get it, I thought about guting it, replacing the speaker with a external cb radio style but keep it hidden and making a space to hide an ipod, that way it looks all original but it will be updated(mainly because it is an old a/m radio).
|
If I ever came across an original IH radio, the very last thing I would do is gut it. How about just slipping the ipod into a pocket?

We used to have an old IH radio, but my uncle took it off the 856 years ago and put it in the grader. He said, "those kids don't need to listen to that stuff while their working" oh but it was ok for him to! Anyway I asked father if it was still laying around someplace, I to thought of mounting it on cub, but it went down the road with the grader. Thirty years to late:bash2: I also would not cut it up. It's a piece of tractor history. |

Its begining to look more like what I planed every day. as for the radio, it has seen beter days. I would leave it all original if it was working, however it has been mounted in the cab of a cotton striper that has had no windows(people like using old farm equipment for target practice around here) for the last 20 years. none of the electronic parts work and the speaker is rotted out, now when i said gut it, just to clarify, the outside will "look" like brand new, A/M radio face and white paint. All the modifacations will be hiden. I wish it did work but I see no need in mounting a non working part on the tractor just for looks.

I was painting the sleave hitch pin and was wondering, I have seen a lot of pictures of other tractors but all the pins have horazantal holes, mine is vertical, anyone have a clue what the differance is? i have an old picture of it if you look close you can see what Im talking about

I got the decals in today, they were a little biger than i thought they would be. They go almost the full length of my white stripe and well i will have to take a picture. But I was restocking my beer fridge and my 55 b160 international script logo fell off the top of the fridge and hit me in the head. So the idea really did just hit me, paint a black stripe inside the white one and use the old pickup badge. I dont know what do yall think? I will post a few pictures.

The lettering in the second pic would look amazing!:beerchug:

I agree, that's going to look great!

I finaly put the decals on, I went with the big tractor decal. I tried to polish the others but they were to rusted up. I also did a little work on the braket for my front spray tank but I didnt like what I had so Im going back to the drawing board. I think I will copy the quick atach patern of the mule drive but Im not sure how much weight it will hold the tank full of water will be around 150lbs. I also fired it up and let it atempt to idel for a while but I discoved that I have a severe gas leak on my carb. It may take me a little while to get back to working on it( cotton harvest is starting up) but I will keep yall posted on any progress.

Cool deal! Looking forward to your updates.

I did a little research i.e. call a freind that owns a small engine repair shop. the carb may not need rebuilt, He said that I either have an Intake Valve sitcking open or my breather vent tube is stoped up. Im hopeing its the breather not the valve. btw here are a few pictures of the new decals

Looks good!:beerchug:

Decals & Radio
fhadderton: I really like your decals, they look "natural," even though I know they're not "correct." I especially like the fact that they're much larger than the JD tractor insignia next to it!
Also, I read your thread from the beginning for the first time and noticed the discussion about the radio. I'm in the "not-gut-it" camp, but with a twist. :bigthink: First, there are guys who refurbish old radios. I would consider spending the money to get it back working because it is "a piece of history," but I also know something about radios. A radio, any radio, consists of two basic parts; the receiver and the amplifier. These sub-assemblies are physically as well as logically separated --that is why you always have a "tuning" knob (for the receiver) and a "volume" knob (for the amplifier). An Ipod only needs the amplifier. It is a relatively simple matter to include a jack in the circuit which (1) disconnects the tuner from the amplifier, and (2) makes the Ipod signal available to the amplifier. So, imagine this: You take your FINE tractor to a show, all the old farts (like me) marvel at your "original" IH radio and how it pulls in the AM stations, but when the younger hipsters show up, you plug in your Ipod and "rock on." Just a thought. :) You can also just drop an amplifier in the radio chassis and use the faux (fake) front to power your Ipod. :) |

did a little work yesterday. finished the front spray tank mount, all it lacks is paint, painted the stacks, and a few other small things. It was running rough the last few times I had it running so I pulled the carb off to clean it and found it was in need of a good cleaning. The bowl on the carb had about 3/4in of goopy sludge in it, its still soaking in the bucket of carb cleaner. next on the list of changes is converting from sleave hitch to cat 0, building the spacers for the dual rear tires. |
Nice! Thanks for keeping us informed! Love the stacks!
This is going to be a working cub! |
That looks great! Thanks for the pics and update.

http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/a...n/IMG_1370.jpg If you can post a picture of the "guts" maybe I can tell if they are repairable / worth repairing. I would be willing to take a stab at repairs if time were not a critical factor. Let me know. Anyone have a schematic diagram for the electronics? Chuck |
I came across a Kohler magnum 12hp in great shape... the best part is its free so I'm thinking about an engine swap. How big of a difference is there between the original 12 hp and the magnum 12 hp??

I kept all the test equipment - all the old equipment (single sideband included) has left the building many years ago. I just work on odd stuff folks drop off just for memories sake.
