Original Restore
2 Attachment(s)
I started tear-down of my 1961 Original today to prepare for restoration. I didn't get too far, as I am letting the exhaust soak in PB Blaster so I can get it apart.
The first pic is before, and the second is what I got accomplished today. |
This will be a great thread, Tyler! :beerchug:
That's not a bad looking O the way it is..Maybe you should buy another O, but a rougher one, to restore?!? :biggrin2: |
Thanks!...
It looks good in pictures, but close up it's a little rough, mostly the hood and dash tower, so I will get them taken care of, and do a little painting. And I like the idea of buying another... |

Thought you might! :biggrin2: |
Looking forward to your progress.
Good luck during your restoration. |

I'll be watching this one!

I agree with everyone else. This will not only be a neat thread, but also a nice O to start with. I really like the ag tires on the back! Can't wait to see more.
|
I too will be keeping an eye on this resto also.
|
Everyone's starting point for restorations are better than my finished ones!
Rat Rod tractors rule! :beer2: Good going Tyler! John |

Got it tore down a little further today, hopefully I can work on it some more this evening. Today I took of the seat, S/G, battery, engine control cables, air cleaner, gas tank, and some wiring.
|
Good job! Thanks for the pic and update.
|
Coming right along! Just a thought, but have you thought of just cutting that monstrosity of an exhaust off close to the block and using a pair of channel locks to take the last of it out of the block? Cant wait to see this one finished!
|
Don't worry, the exhaust is coming off. It is too rusted on for channel locks, but a 4 ft pipe wrench is in order.

Today I got almost all the exhaust off, the wiring harness, the Voltage Regulator, some engine tins, and a few other things.
|
Thanks for the pic. Please keep the updates coming.
|
4 ft pipe wrench thats it?? at our shop we have one with a 6ft handle. But you original is coming along nicely. better than mine.

And, Thanks |
I think the last thing I would want is a 6 foot pipe wrench on an exhaust pipe of a K-161. If you need that, you've got bigger issues...
Anyway, nice job on the Original. Looks like it will be a fun project for you. |

Today, I got some of the parts primed for paint. Still working on the exhaust issue, though. And, I have to figure out how to get some of the wrinkles out of the front of the hood.
|
Very nice! Thanks for the pics.

Didn't get any pics today, but I made a lot of progress. Today I finished pulling off the old exhaust, pulled the engine, tore off the dash tower and steering column, and removed the front axle. Oh, and did a little prep for body work and paint. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.
|
Thanks for the update. Looking forward to your pics.

Today, I did some more sanding, and some priming. Ordered my decals last night from maple hunter, it's starting to move along good now.

Did some body filler work tonight on the bottom part of the dash tower, and plenty of sanding, priming, and painting as usual. No pictures because there were no big advancements, just a lot of little things. Also, my decals came in today from maple hunter.
|
Man TS, your smoking right along, good job.
