Roland,

The 800 came with a really small starter from the factory. They are very hard to come by now days. The replacement starter is the size of the rest of the quietlines and the frame of the 800 had to be trimmed to accommodate the larger starter. I will take some pics.

Here are some pics Roland.
The first pic is the stock 800 starter.
The second pic is a replacement starter and the PO trimmed the frame.
The third pic is a replacement starter and the PO trimmed and hammered out the frame.

Cub:

Thanks for the explanation. I do not have a model 800 and did not know there was two different sizes of starters. I thought that all Q/L's used the same starter. I learned something today.

:beerchug:

Mike,
Nice unit! I like the detail of the small starter. Those features make our tractors unique.
Is this one going to get a shiny as the one posted by CADplans??
Great looking 800's.
Regards,
Chris

No problem Roland. Yeah, the 800 is a unique one! Sometimes my explanations aren't the greatest but I think you guys get the jist of it.

red56turbo 08-06-2012 01:11 PM

Nice find! I assume she's still sporting it's original muffler and air cleaner as well? She looks to be in great shape. I've only got one 800, but it's fun to play around with. I've added a creeper and rear PTO since I've owned it. How about a lineup of all your 800's. That would be cool. I still think Pennsylvania is the mecca of cub cadets. :biggrin2: Must be ten cubs for every one person. :beer2:

cubcadet 08-06-2012 01:18 PM

:biggrin2: josh is right i agree:beer2:

So, you have 5x 800s. Now, the real question is....

How many total Cubs does this make?!? :bigthink:  :biggrin2:

Mike needs more fingers and toes for that count.:biggrin2: Got to give my buddy Mike a hard time about his collection.:beer2:

ajgross 08-06-2012 03:40 PM

I think I know another guy in KY with 5 or more 800's. Seems there are a lot of them around for them being so rare.

Can't remember off the top of my head who that is............. Jess or Adrian? I know Paul B's had a few over the years as well. So maybe Louisville is the 800 mecca???? :bigthink::biggrin2:

ajgross 08-06-2012 05:14 PM

That would be Jess who has 5, 6, or 7. I'm not sure he knows how many he's got. And Paul seems to have them coming and going too. It seems every time he gets rid of one, another shows up.

AJ

Cubcrazy 08-06-2012 08:00 PM

Thanks Todd, Josh, and Conner!:beerchug:

Josh it is still sporting the original muffler and duct piece but the PO lost the original air cleaner!:bash2: He put a round one on it so now I have to find one of those!
One of these days I will get a group shot of them all but there are a few buried and haven't seen the light of day for a few years! hehe

So it was Jess. I knew it was one of em. Paul seems to find both of the Cub Cadet 8 horses. Whether it's an 800 or 86, he's finding them. Lately, more of the 86 type. :biggrin2:

Cubcrazy,
The 86 I picked up this spring was in my buddy's barn for roughly 5 years. He lives on a gravel road, so I had to clean off about a half an inch of dirt. Hopefully the aircleaner would be the easier of the 800 only parts to find. :beerchug:

I remember reading on one of the forums Matt G and Paul B talking about a J*** D***e (ouch) :banned: that had a K181 AQS like the 800 had. I know the electric PTO and muffler were different, but I seem to remember that the air cleaner would be the same and work on the more superior Cub Cadet. :IH Logo: :biggrin2: Now CRS could be setting in, don't get too excited, but shoot Matt G a PM or shoot Paul an email and confirm that I'm probably wrong.

Cubcrazy 08-07-2012 03:07 PM

You might be right Josh.
I remember seeing one before and it looked just like the cub's but I will email them to see for sure.
Thanks!:beerchug:

Of course I am looking for the same air cleaner for my Cub 800. I have the inner part, just need the outer. I have called or emailed all the sponsers and garden tractor salvage yards within 4 hours of me with no luck. Does anyone know what model # the green machine had a K181 Aqs? Are they the same or close?

You guys are never going to believe this!
I was back at the same place yesterday where I bought this 800 a couple months back looking at an off topic tractor. The guy has junk thrown about everywhere and I walked down beside his garage and was looking through the junk and I found this gem!! When I bought the 800 it had all the hard to find parts except the air cleaner and base. He just had a round one on it. I asked him if he had the correct air cleaner for it and he said he thought the one on it was. I said no so I looked around a little and didn't see it so I left.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it just laying there in the junk pile!
Here are the pics of what I found! I had a good day yesterday!

Mike a find like that will keep a smile on your face for years!

Congrats!:beerchug:

lagerboy 10-21-2012 10:49 AM

That is awesome! Glad you found it. I am still looking for a air cleaner for my 800. Watched two different EBay auctions for them in the past few weeks and both auctions they went for
$80 plus shipping. I guess I should have bid because I can't find one or one that fits a JD 208.

Cubcrazy 10-21-2012 11:12 AM

Thanks guys!
Lagerboy,

You have the base correct? So you just need the cover?

ACecil 10-21-2012 12:07 PM

Glad you found the air cleaner, Mike!

Cubcrazy,
That is correct, I do have the base. Needs a little attention, but I can fix it. But I am in need of the outer cover. It was MIA when I got the 800.
