2182 Fuel pump

I just picked up a 2182 with a Kubota 3cyl. It looks like the PO put in the wrong fuel pump. It runs constant when you turn on the ignition. The tractor runs good with it but it doesn't seem that the pump should be running if the motor isn't. Does anyone have any experience with these?

I checked the oil for gas and it doesn't seem to push fuel past the carb.

**I didn't see the thread title mistake. guess my 2072 is in my thoughts.

I fixed the title for ya.:beerchug:

That fuel pump needs to be replaced before you fill your oil pan full of fuel.:bash2:

Matt G. 07-21-2012 06:48 AM

No, that's how electric fuel pumps work...they are on when the ignition is on.

Sam Mac 07-21-2012 07:52 AM

Yep, like Matt said that's how they work. How about some pics of the 2182. Just a FYI if you need any parts for the Kubota go to a Kubota dealer. They are about a 3rd less that Cub.

SumBum 07-21-2012 08:41 AM

It looks like there's a fuel solenoid on the bottom of the Carb, And its tied into the power wire to the fuel pump. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for one of these? I'd like to see if it's wired correctly.

Sam Mac 07-21-2012 08:57 AM

PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you. The solenoid is the fuel shut down and that is how it should be.

Thank you for that diagram. It shows the fuel solenoid running to the seat switch. This one is just spliced into the pump power wire about 5" away from the pump. I have been running it and checking the oil over and over cause I just don't trust it. but so far there doesn't seem to be any fuel getting into the crankcase.

Another odd thing I found while putting a 60" mower deck on it was the pto was not lining up properly. The PO had it installed with the pulley facing out.
I looked up the parts diagram for it and it seems it should be installed with the pulley facing in.

Does this look correct now that I flipped it around?

Sam Mac 07-21-2012 06:10 PM

The way it is in the pic is correct. I doubt that you are getting fuel in the oil, the elec pump makes noise whenever the key is on. The key powers the fuel pump, coil and carb solenoid to run. Worry when you don't hear it with the key on. The diesels do the same thing as do the Kubota BX tractors and probably other models. I hope you don't sell your 2182 at least not till you get some seat time on it to see how good they are. The only Cub I would even think about trading it for would be a 1782 diesel and I'd have to run one for a while before I jumped on that band wagon. You have my e-mail any questions don't be afraid to holler :beerchug:

I took it out and did a little mowing with it. The deck on it sure is quiet.
I probably wont get much time mowing with either of these Supers. When my oldest 2 get home I'll see how they like using it.

I have an old Jacobsen that I use to mow with now. It'll be tough to get used to not having hydro control with my foot. I just about ran into my garage door hitting the brakes and not hitting the hand lever .

The 60" Haban is the best! Did I mention that women love a man with a Big Deck ? :biggrin2:

I do pretty good...My Cub Cadet dealer is also a Grasshopper and Kubota engine dealer. So, they can get parts from Cub Cadet, Grasshopper, or Kubota. :beerchug:

I had that problem with the 129 + 147 I just fixed up and sold. I'm used the the hydro lever being on the right side. Every time I went for it on those 2 I hit the throttle. :biggrin2:

2182 repairs

I decided to drag the sand blaster out today and try and clean up the exhaust a bit on this 2182.

Does anyone have a pic of the air cleaner mount that this tractor is supposed to have?

If you soak the bolts on the mufler guard they will probaly come out and you can paint the muller with some header paint. Let me know if these pics work for you. Good to see you fixing the Big Girl up! No way your gonna sell it now, you two have bonded. :biggrin2:

SumBum 07-22-2012 08:01 PM

What models have a fender pan and foot rests that will fit the 2182. I'm gonna fix her up a bit.

I put a couple boat motors up for sale. If one of them sells My wife says I can keep the 2182.:beerchug:

Sam Mac 07-22-2012 08:04 PM

Jay

As far as I know all the Cyclops tractor fender and foot rests should fit but I'll check for you. If you can find a later model with the big fuel filler I have a gas tank for it.

SumBum 07-22-2012 08:51 PM

Thanks for the help Sam

Sam Mac 07-22-2012 09:28 PM

Jay

It looks like the fender pan is Super specific. Looking at your pics on C-list I suggest you take some time and do a little sanding and painting on the fender pan, it doesn't look all that bad. The foot pads could probably even be fixed.

These are the Cyclops Supers that have pretty much the same sheet metal but you need to look for an earlier Super because they changed the rock shaft design on the later tractors and the foot pads are a bit different. Not a big deal and you can trim it to fit if need be. The sheet metal on your tractor is the same as my 1882.

1782 Kubota diesel
1882 Kohler Mag18
2086 Kawi
2082 Kohler Mag20
2182 Kubota gas
2084 Kohler CH20
2284 Kohler CH22

SumBum 07-22-2012 09:51 PM

I'll pull the foot rests off tomorrow and see If I can straighten them out. If not I'll bring them down to Norfolk next weekend and see what my Dad can do with them. The fender pan is going to be pitted up pretty bad. I'll see if I can make it look decent before I buy a different one.

Sam Mac 07-22-2012 10:07 PM

If it's not rotted through some bondo and new paint should make it look like new. I've seen worse than what you have. Sent you an e, check it out. Gotta go, I'm old and it's past my bed time :biggrin2:

Methos 07-23-2012 10:12 AM

Good luck on your boat motors sales! That looks too good to sell!

Matt G. 07-23-2012 10:22 AM

If I were you I'd remove those shields from the muffler so you can get rid of all of the rest of the rust underneath them and on the back sides of the shields...it's just going to get rusty again in a hurry if you don't.

Yeah the bolts came out pretty easy once I sand blasted it. I finished up blasting the inside edges and gave it a coat with VHT then reassembled and gave it all another coat and then a coat of VHT clear.

Sam Mac 07-23-2012 09:09 PM

That looks GOOD! Gotta do that to my 2182

ACecil 07-23-2012 10:48 PM

Looks great! Thanks for the pics.

SumBum 07-25-2012 06:04 PM

looks like I have the motor sold. :(

Here's a video I took of the outboard. Some of you will get a kick out of the sound of it.

Sounds good to me too!:beer2:

SumBum 07-25-2012 09:10 PM

Yeah, that one is a screamer. I was hoping to come across a decent bass hull to put that on but it never happened.

SumBum 07-25-2012 09:25 PM

SO... I have a freshly painted frame from the 2072 sitting in my shop and I looked over at the 2182 and wondered if I could move everything off that rusty frame and rebuild it on this 2072 frame.

I can't see any difference between the 2 but there may be a surprise or 2 hidden under that gas tank.

Checked the Cub parts site the 2072 frame is part # 703-0234 and the 2182 frame is part # 703-1929 no idea what is different

SumBum 07-26-2012 09:00 AM

Comparing the 2 dif frames from parts diagrams it seems the 2182 may have 4 extra locations for cable clips in the underside rear of the frame.
Were getting poured on right now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../raindance.gif When I can make a run for the shop, I'll check it out closer.

ACecil 07-26-2012 10:03 AM

That sounds awesome! Thanks for the vid.

SumBum 07-26-2012 09:49 PM

Just got a $400 offer on this 2182 or $100 just for the 60" deck. He seems pretty confident that's all it's worth.

Wow, he has no idea!

SumBum 07-26-2012 10:43 PM

I'm about to tear it all down and restore it. I'm going to try to get the 2072 back together this weekend and wait for a motor on that while I redo this 2182.:beerchug:

Sounds like the genius that looked at my 2284 but who really just wants a deck for his 1782. He offered me what I consider to be beer money for a 60" Haban. It's good to want. Gotta love some of these Craigs list tire kickers. :biggrin2:
