129 Woes

So the old parts 129 I picked up a few weeks ago, I decided to try and get running since it has the hydro lift. Well after new wiring, new switch, new solenoid still wouldn't do nothing so I borrowed the sg off the 126 and she spun over. Woo hoo! Put the fuel system back together added the gas and seafoam and she came to life checked all the usual things for leaks, found none. So I put on the shoes I got from Vince and took her for a test run. She pulled great plenty of giddy up then nothing. No forward, no reverse, no lift no nothing. Checked the rear oil and it's all good. As this is only my second hydro, first being the 107 I picked up with the 129, I know absolutely nothing about them. What to check, how to check..Any advice and direction would be incredibly helpful. This one is slated to handle the grass duties and I kind of need it to start working asap. :Help:

Well all the pins are intact the shaft rotates all the way into the tranny. Working on pulling the fenders to check out everything under there. Really hoping that its something simple stupid.

Ok here goes, the fenders came off, very unwillingly at luckily I have an extra set. After cleaning out pecans and 35 years of dirt and grime I found the inspection cover. The fluid looks real good nice and amber colored. So I decided to fire it up and see if I could see it doing anything. Nothing until I hit the shifter or the hydro lever, upon doing this the nice amber colored oil was being infused with gold colored foamy fluid at very low idle she tries to pull and the lift will move. But when I increase the engine speed nothing. Any ideas guys?

charge pump is bad

Stick a 1/4 " pin punch in the hole on the rear of the hydro pump shaft that is above the inspection plate.REMOVE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE.Now turn the motor over by hand and see if one of your pins is broke on the drive shaft.
Let us know the results....

All the pins are intact as should be.

Go back and check the spirol pins, looking @ them ain't enough.
They can be sheared in the middle and look good @ either end.

Looks like it is time to change the fluid and filter, or check the charge pump rotor for breakage or a broken pin...but being that it moved when you first had it running I would change the fluid and filter.

My thoughts, too. If it has been sitting for a long period of time, then a blockage can enter the filter and strange things have been known to happen with filters. Change both the fluid and filter, since it will need to be done anyway and see what happens!

Talked with Vince O tonight, he said the relief valve is stuck. I'll attempt to pull it out tomorrow and try his recommendation. All the roll pins are in good shape and the fluid looks clean as a whistle. With some luck it will be a relatively easy fix.

Jack that rearend up and make sure that it is very stable if you run it and try to unstick that valve!!! I had a stuck valve once on a 129 and I had it jacked up, but not as stable as I should have. When it released, it took off on me and ran into my garage--right over everything and only stopped when the snow blower on my 149 held it back. I should have been safer in my work and got very lucky--just trying to keep you from repeating my stupid mistake!

I hate to say it, but I believe had I been there when that happened I would have been rolling on the floor laughing. I will take a page from your book and make sure its up on stands before I give it the gas.
