149 restofication
I've decided to paint my 149 similar to a 66 series IH full size tractor. My plan is to make it look like it would if IH had painted the Cubs to match their other tractors. It will be IH red with the white stripe on the hood and grill. The front wheels will be red and the rears will have red centers and silver rims. It will have the factory decals but I will cut and place them like they are on a 66 series.
It will be painted like this. http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/a.../1066hydro.jpg This is painted up like an 86 series. http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/a...1333076439.jpg A 1466. http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/a...Cadet/1466.jpg Here's how it looked before I dismantled it. http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/a...det/149004.jpg http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/a...det/149003.jpg I'll try to take plenty of pics along the way. |
Looks like this will be an awsome resofication. I will be following like the preverbial hawk. Are you going to put the big tires and wheels on the back as in the first picture?:GoodLuck:

This project is going to be awesome! I will have the privilege to see this beauty in person! :biggrin2: :beerchug:
Just curious, know any info on the one painted up to look like an 86 series? Wonder what kind of diesel its got in it. :bigthink: |
I'm looking forward to this, Adam!
|
Can't wait to see this one!
|
Great project to keep an I on. Keep the pics coming.

Can`t wait to see this one finished!:beerchug:

So far, I have the frame sanded and ready to paint and the rearend is cleaned up and almost ready for paint. I'm making a grill insert similar to the one on the 86 series clone. I'm not sure what diesel is in the 86 clone. Going by the number on the hood it must be an 18 hp 3 cylinder. |

Found the original thread on it...It's a Kubota. :beerchug: |
I'm with eveyone else, I'm looking forward to this!:beerchug:

cub cadets always look cool painted up like the real farm tractors. id like to see more pics of that narrow front JD in the background too as those look sharp with narrow fronts. they look allot like the 3010-4020 john deeres.

I finished my grill today and snapped a few progress pics. The frame is sanded and ready for primer. The rearend is almost ready for primer. The fenders have most of the paint stripped off the top and are almost ready to be sanded and primed. When I tore the tractor down I found that the front axle had been broken in two and welded back together. I picked up another axle from mrcubcadet with 1" spindles, wheels, and a good set of tires. Thanks again Conner.

Appreciate the pics and update, Adam!
|
Great update and good call on replacing that axle. I'm am at pretty much the same phase you are in regards to my 147. The rear end is really taking some scraping, chipping, washing....doesn't seem to end.

They do look pretty cool red and white!
Attachment 26523 Attachment 26524 Attachment 26525 I tried to make mine look like cub cadets were available in red in white, but the tractor clone scheme looks cool too, I will keep an eye out for progress on your project....now quit reading these replies and get back to work (sound of whip cracking in the backround)! Thanks again for not making me take it off!! Oh, and for the rare steering wheel cap! :beerchug: |
I stopped at TSC today and picked up 2 quarts of IH red paint. I hope the Majic brand paint works out. I've used it in spray cans and it looks good.
|
Got the frame and rear end primed tonight. Weather man is calling for rain this weekend (About darn time!) so I may not get any IH red sprayed. That's ok, I wouldn't mind if it rained the rest of the month.

Looking great, Adam!
|
Thanks Allen. I'm getting anxious to get the 149 done but there's still a lot of work to do.
|
Looking great and enjoy your rain!

Just finished stripping and sand blasting the front wheels, axle, and spindles. Plan is to get it on tires so I can roll it around the garage.

Got the front end parts primed.

Not sure how I'll make the final ones. Thinking 1/4" lexan with a piece of sheet metal behind it painted black. Need to find out what Kurt Smith uses on his scale tractors. http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/a...7-14-12005.jpg The steering wheel I got from Mrcubcadet off of a 1650. http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/a...7-14-12004.jpg |
Looking good, I like you wheel center

Thanks guys. I'll try to get some IH red sprayed Sunday or early this week.

Sprayed some red today. I like the Majic brand paint so far. It has good shine to it and it seems to dry faster than the Valspar I used on my trailer. I used some leftover Valspar enamel hardener with the Majic paint and it seemed to be compatible. On to the pics.
