Loaded tires
Just wondering, how many of you add some sort of fluid to your rear tires? :bigthink:
I run windshield washer fluid in the tires plus 90 lbs. each side of my homemade wheel weights.
Makes a HUGE difference :biggrin2: |
I've got RV antifreeze on my All Trails, plus between 35-75lbs of wheel weights. Nothing like a firm planted feeling mowing across a 26 degree slope!
How much fluid do you put in each tire?
23x10.50s will fit around 7 gallons - I have antifreeze in mine + 1 set of wheel weights. It's a great thing to have!
That's the size of my rear tires maddog784. Did you fill them yourself? How?
Yeah - I filled them myself. I prefer the "break the bead" technique. I lay the tire down on the floor and break the top bead. Pour the fluid in (slowly at first, just to ensure that it doesn't run out of the bottom - mine didn't have any problems here). Put some air back in and mount them back on - instant traction. I used 3 gallons of antifreeze and 4 gallons of water. I forget what the freezing temp was, I think it was something like -20, and it doesn't get that cold here.
Others on here have found some sort of drill-operated pump that pumps the fluid into the tire. Seems to me like it would take a while for all of that fluid to get through the valve stem. |
I load mine with 8oz of dawn in each tire and top off with water. I keep my cubs in my garage and it never gets under 45 and I live in NC.:TwoCents:
Actually, it doesnt take to long to load through the valve steams. i do since mine have tubes.
What kind of pump do you use, Donovan?
Yes, please tell us, Donovan!:Help:
I fill through the valves too, little hand transfer pump with the fill kit from tractor supply, it comes with the "burp" valve that you have to do every so often.
Yep water hose with the fill kit from TSC and a gal of windshield wiper solution...
I used a drill pump made by Wayne. Someone said something about hooking the gal jug up to a hose and poking a hole in the bottom and blowing air into the jug. I'm not quite sure how they hooked a hose onto the jug, but I like that idea, sounds fast.
I use a drill powered pump that i got at the local hardware store.
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...filling001.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...filling002.jpg This adapter fits the valve stem, the other end hooks to the garden hose. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...filling004.jpg I fill a 5 gallon bucket with the windshield washer fluid and have a hose from it the the pump. From the other side of the pump to the tire. I have loaded 6 pair this way. I put the valve stem at 12:00 oclock and keep filling till its just starting to come out. that leaves a little air space at the top for cushion. |
Some say windshield washer fluid, others say RV antifreeze. What if you mixed the two? :Unknown:
Duke, Does the Dawn change the freeze temp? I live in Southern KY and my cubs are always in a heated garage so Im thinking some part "something" and water solution would work fine. The BRS has beet juice but the 2072 doesnt have anything and I was thinking of adding something to my garden tiller also.

I'd love to get ahold of some rimguard (beet juice) water is around 9lb/gal and rimguard is about 11.5lb/gal but the nearest dealer is like 250 miles from po-dank wv.
I just use a drill pump a a big fast drill.
I use a 120v water pump From TSC it has garden hose hook ups on it. i modified it by puting a switch on it so i shut it off with out unpluging it
I have my 23x10.5x12 turfs filled with Rimguard and they weigh between 112 and 114 lb each. That stuff is incredibly dense. I just picked up a set of 23x8.5x12 dual AGs and I'm still debating on having them filled with Rimguard or just filling them myself with antifreeze/windshield washer fluid.
Pokey,
How much did you pay of the RimGuard? |
Now what do I do? I've already invested in the air/water adapter at TSC, a pump. and some hose to fill my tires myself. I'm debating between wwf and rv antifreeze. I don't have the fluid yet.
I decided to email RimGuard just to see if their were any dealers close to me. Well there is, and he told me it would cost me $17 a piece to load my 23x10.5-12 tires! What would you do? Please :Help: |

I'm cheap so I made my own fluid. Used 1 gallon of methanol with 9 gallons of water in my 26 12 12 tires. methanol is what is used in windshield washer fluid and it's only $4 a gallon. So to fill two tires it cost me $8. I did a quick search and found a % for the methanol but they didn't give any degrees for it but basicaly said for cold temps use 10% and for extreme cold use 15-20%. I'm in NC plus my tractors stay inside so I just went with 10%.
Also my tires have tubes so I used the adapter kit from tractor supply, hooked a peice of garden hose to it and sucked out all of the air from the tube with a shop vac (first you have to break the bead in just one spot to let air in between the tire and tube or it will suck the tire in, ask me how I know). Then I hooked the hose to a container and let the fluid flow in. I had read that people where putting 10 gal in one tire so that is all I put in. Also, before I did any of this I put the new tubes in and filled them with air and let them stretch out for a couple of weeks. It takes about an hour to fill each tire so I did it while I was working on other projects. |
Just pop the bead and pour the fluid in....15 minutes....Done...

Remember fill to only 90% explaining: When the valve stem is @ 12 o'clock liquid is just trying to spit out. (tire/wheel installed on tractor) This allows for the adjustment of air pressure without fluid loss and keeps a small cushion of air so no injury to the tire if it incounters a hard hit. also pulls better in the field(traction) |
I put 7 gallons of Wal-Mart's cheap -20 we fluid in the 782 and I can tell a big difference when I was pullin the yard sweeper around dads yard picking up pine needles. On some of the hills it would spin when wet it didn't even attempt to and I was riding it around right after it rained today only cost me a little over 20 bucks
The BRS has Rimguard (beetjuice) in the rear tires and I developed a leak. I am telling you from experience that is the nastiest stuff you have ever messed with in your life. I stinks terrible, tastes bad and stains clothes. My wife was about to kill me because it leaked in the garage and stunk up the house. The nearest Rimguard dealer to southern KY is over an hour away so from now on it will be RV antifreeze and water. The little bit of weight difference to me is greatly offset by not dealing with the stink and nastiness of Rimguard. Just my 2 cents.
