Cat 0 3pt tiller info

Duke and several other members ask me to post info on the tiller my dad uses on his diesel. It is an aftermarket brand.
The brand is BEFCO G42 2000 rpm cat 0 3pt tiller. Unfortunately I don't have much other info trying to find an owners now. It appears that it can be used as cat 0 or cat 1 by flipping the arms over. It works very well and tills nicely.BEFCO is still in business and I visited their website but couldnt find the G42. Here are the pictures.

That looks like it works awesome that is a sweet setup

Thanks for the info and pics!!!! Nice tiller!!!

Looking at the T30 page, they do show a 2,000 rpm opton at the bottom of the text. But they all look to be cat.2 ... Looks like a phone call will be in order!

Last night, I spoke with the original owner my father purchased the 1772 from, (he worked for a Cub dealer at the time). He did have a tiller with it when he had the tractor, but sold it years ago.

He still repairs Cubs and is currently looking for a belt driven tiller. He knows of some "stuff" aound and is also going to do some checking to see if he can find one for us.

I did find a tiller that has been setting in a barn for over 10 years. This guy bought the Cub and the tiller came with the deal. He is not sure of the drive... (Probably a belt?). I hope to go look at it this weekend.

Thanks again for the info!

And impressive as well!

I'm putting my request in for action pics and video PLEASE!

I think Befco built the Cat 0 tillers for IH and CCC back in the day. but I could be wrong.

I just looked up the cat 0 pto driven tillers on Partstree and the part numbers all start with "BF" so I think I'm right on them building the tillers for them.

After rereading the ID tag they are made in Rocky Mount, NC:beerchug:

I spoke with a gal from Befco yesterday and it sounds like they did make the tillers for Cubs. They still offer a 2,000 rpm option in one of their series, but no cat 0 ... I think she said cat 1.

soooo, looks like back to the "drawing board" . (and Craigslist, ebay, etc.)

Btw, dsmith... nice tiller!!!!!

dsmithjr 05-09-2012 10:09 PM

I think dads will work with cat 1 or cat 0 just by turning the front arms over. You can tell I've you look at the pictures. The new one maybe the same way.

I'm not sure if this one is in your price range, but my dad has one that he uses on his modified 149 with a pto...

The specs show that it's a 540 RPM input. I don't think you could use that without some mods on a rear pto tractor.

Don't let the CAT thing stop you!! That is the easy part to fix.The hard part is the 2000 RPM speed.

Take another look at the pics in post#1.

I would bet Methos 1650 that the one pictured is a CAT 1 hookup!!

The top link hole is 3/4" - not 5/8" like CAT 0.

The bottom links have CAT 1 pins on the inside.:bigthink:

There is so little difference between CAT 0 and CAT 1, that if you had the CAT 1 tiller and added $30 max at TSC, the tiller would be connected!!

I thought that all Cat 0 stuff was 2000 RPM and Cat 1 up was 540.

Our local dealer got a quote on the cat 0 tiller from Befco. (it can still be put together with replacement cat 0 parts) unfortunately, I can't justify $2,750 plus tax for a tiller that would not work on a newer tractor if I ever wanted to replace the 1772. .... plus all I mainly want it for is to till our garden.

Note to self: .... keep looking for used.....

It's a very small show. I think there was about 10 venders there today.

That was in my watch list but it was too far away for me. Somebody got a great deal on it.
