Any CC 149 owners out there?

:American Flag 1:

Question about the hood hold downs on a 149. My hood brace has groves in it where the hold down contacts it. Are they suppose to be there or should the brace be without the groves? Thank you for your time. Don B.

I have a 128 (12hp gear drive, yours is 14hp hydrostatic drive, otherwise pretty much the same) and I don't see any hold downs... maybe I'm missing a few pieces. My tractor is an original neglected 128, now it's a better maintained but well worn 128.

There shouldn't be any grooves. Time to do a bit of welding to build it back up. I had to do that on my 128.

You can see the hood latch hanging down on the steering tower. There is a catch up in behind the fiberglass dash that they rest on to hold the hood down. Hanging down allows the hood to be raised.

I have welded up the grooves in my 149 and 169.
I even put a little spot on the latch wires also to build them back up.

Do most of you guys use your hold downs and do they seem to keep the hood from shaking and rattling on your 1x8/1x9 series tractors? I have taken them off of a couple of mine because I have had issues with them catching on the hood when raising and lowering. I may need to make some adjustments to my grill in order to properly position the hood with respect to the dash, and I know I need to do some fiberglass work on the dashes to tighen fhings up.

I do prefer to use my hold downs. In case you weren't aware of it, you can do a bit of adjustment up and down on the fiberglass housing mount to help create the right fit. Also there should be I think 4 rubber strips that mount to the steel frame the hood sits down on. These are factory and should help reduce vibrations. Some people also use seat cover edging "identical to what holds your factory seat cover to the shell" on the lip of the hood to help with vibrations.

When I rebuilt my 149, I really hated the way the hood mounted, the PTO side latch would interfer/ get tangled up in the PTO handle/ mounting plate. I replaced my hood with one from a 1450 quiet line. It is exactly the same hood, just have to get the latch from the dash tower as well, seems to be a lot better idea for holding the hood closed in my eyes....no silly interferring latches to mess with!
