Seperate brake pedal on 100
I'm working on fixing up a 100 and while it's dismantled I decided to seperate the brake pedal from the clutch pedal to make it more like a real tractor. It will also make it easier to take off uphill without the tractor rolling backwards between the time the brake releases and the clutch engages. I've got everything figured out and I just need to finish making the pieces. I'm making the brake pedal a mirror image of the clutch pedal so it will look like it came that way from the factory. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow and as this project progresses.

Looking forward to the pictures IHinIN.
:GoodLuck: On with your project  |
Good luck, on your project, IHinIN! Can't wait to see your pics. :beerchug:

Here are some pics for you guys. The brake seems to work pretty well. I need to get some stronger return springs for the pedals. When I push down hard on the brake pedal it causes the clutch pedal to pull down about 1/8". A stronger spring should take care of that. The only things I had to alter on the tractor were drilling a hole for the return spring to hook into and a knockout hole for a roll pin and I had to cut 2.25" off the clutch pedal pivot rod.

Nice work ..... Great Job.... |
Nice fabrication IHinIN
That ought to work really great. |
Great job! I put split brakes on a 782 that I have. How do you lock the pedal down for a parking brake?
|
Great fab work!
Only issue I see may be if you use a front implement that requires a lift rod. May hit the pedal. My clutches are so sensitive, there's not much travel for the tractor to roll between releasing the brake and the clutch engaging. Now, turning brakes would be cool, not necessary, but cool looking. I think there was another kid in Indiana who did that to a custom narrow front 100 a while back. Can't think of his name. He posts on the IHRegstry.com site. I mispelled it on purpose cause for some childish reason Regstry comes up with ******** if you spell it right. Anyway, you're right. Looks factory to me. |
Awesome job, IHinIN! Thanks for the pics. :beerchug:

Does anyone happen to have a pic of the lift bracket that attaches to the lift handle. I'm going to make one. |
Great job IHinIN,
Did you make that "sleeve" from solid stock or did it used to be something else? |

I made a small change to the brake pedal. I put a 1.50" offset in it to get it away from the frame to give me room to run my lift rod behind it. It also will be easier to get my foot on the pedal since the lift handle made it hard to get my foot on it.

I got my lift rod made and it just barely clears the brake pedal. Here's a few more pics of the pedal and the brackets I made to make the blade fit.

IHinIN,
Your parts look great  Cant wait to see it in action :biggrin2.gif: |
Great work IHinIN,
While looking at your pics I noticed some nice looking modifications to your front blade sub-frame. Can you tell us about that? |
Awesome job, IHinIN! I really like that.

Thanks for the compliments guys. |
Very very nice work. I would like to do the same thing on my 149, only a dual brake. You have given me a nice guide to start with.

Well, I got it back together and running yesterday. The new brake pedal works great. I still need to figure out a parking brake for it. While I had it apart I spray bombed a few things like the wheels and the grill mesh since they were covered in surface rust. I also painted the gas tank and made a new set of stainless straps. The old straps are too long since the tank on it is obviously for a 70 and the straps were for the bigger 100 tank. I'm now working on making a mounted salt spreader out of a tow behind broadcast fertilizer spreader.

IHinIN,
Your 100 looks great! I really like your brake pedal. I've really enjoyed your pics of progress! :beerchug: |
Thanks ACecil.

Well, it only took me 4 years to get this project done. Today, I finally made a parking brake latch. I built it similar to the old Farmall setup with a ratchet plate and a catch on the pedal. The Farmalls had the notches on the pedal and a spring loaded catch hooked to a handle to set the brake. Stomp on the pedal and the catch releases. Now I no longer have to shut off the tractor in gear to keep it from rolling downhill.

Top notch job, Adam!

Very Nice!

No offset
Where did the offset pedal go. I don't see the lift handle ether.
I do see that you have a different lifting attachment. So does the lift rod for the front attachments run on the outside of the brake pedal now?:bigthink: |
