Cub 169
I am going to look at a Cub 169 this weekend, and have been told a lot of people like to make another cub look like a 169. Can you guys give m some tips on trying to figure out if it is a 169. Thanks, sorry no pics.

Big air cleaner and big muffler.
|
It is true that 169's have the larger air cleaner and bigger muffler. It may or may not have those. To be sure it's a true 169, look at the serial number. It would have a kind/model code of 0048 towards the beginning of the number. The serial number should look something like this: 2050048UXXXXXX. Good luck and keep us posted!

Count the head bolts, should be 10 not 9.

Here are some pics of the air cleaner, hour meter and large muffler on my 169. They all had these with lights as a standard. It could have a manual lift and still be correct.

Do all 169's have the hour meter or was that an option?
|
All of the 169's i have seen had the hour meter.

They were all supposed to have the Maintenance Minder but some people take them off for some unknown reason

Nice find! Hope to see more pics when you get it. I just picked up three this month, they are a very collectible tractor to own. Soon to be 4 here in the next couple days...stay tuned.

Missed It
I was all set to go pick it up, the owner and I agreed on a price. However I went on line to check this thread before I went, and thats when I saw another member on here got the tractor. The owner made me furious, he even said I will hold it, dont worry I have no intensions of selling it to anybody else. Thanks for all the tips though, atleast I learned how to determine if a tractor is really a 169 if I ever come across another one.
Thanks Again |
Sorry to hear about that, it happens to all of us. :bash2:
|
Sorry to hear that. I couldn't do that to anyone.

And to be clear, I would never "steal" one from under anyone being a member of this forum or not. If the PO would have said he was holding it for someone I would have told him to please contact me if it didn't sell but this wasn't the case. I also won't know if a OCC member was trying to purchase it or not. If it is any consolation, it is missing the muffler shield, hour meter and the next to impossible to find original muffler. Also, when a Cub 169, 800, 982, 782D come up for sale, don't think the owner will hold them. They will get alot of calls and cash is king. I lost a Cub 800 a few months back after I drove 3 hours when the PO was "holding" it. I actually passed the guy who bought it on a road 5 miles from me getting there. |

I feel the blame should be placed on the seller not with either one of you two. You both wanted to buy the same tractor and if you had know about it I'm 100% sure you guys would have gave each other the go ahead to buy it. Thank you both for wanting to give this 169 a good home and talking thru this like adults.:beerchug:
