Plug breather

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
Working on the 169. Previous owner somewhere along the way had removed the plug breather and installed a piece of copper tube and rubber hose that was routed up along side the battery. I am going to install a lift on this while i have it apart. And that copper tube sticking up has to go. I was just on the parts lookup and Cub Cadet says that the plug breather is currently unavailable. Any one got an idea what could be used as a substitute. Thanks for any ideas.

If you can post a picture of what the OEM looks like, or when I get time to check mine I could probably fix one for you if you have trouble finding one. It may be a common fitting size that you could find easy at a parts store, I'm not familiar with that part, however the one you have does not look to bad (you could touch it up some) I bet it also keeps oil, and gunk off the rear.

If you wanted to keep it, you might get a 90* elbow, and a small piece of copper tubing to route it closer to the housings.

Hey clint,
I dont really know what the original looks like. It fits flush with the top of the rear housing. I didnt know you could even remove these things. But the lift just barely clears the top of the rear. I dont see how anything could be sticking out the top and clear the lift when its installed.

I will take a look at mine, if it's just a push in plud I could turn one from aluminum that would be very easy, if it were more involved it might be better to look at finding one.

Thanks ACecil and Roblynn.

Hey ACecil, I forgot to mention i installed the new drive shaft. I know we were talking about it last time we were on the phone :biggrin2.gif:

ACecil 09-27-2009 11:47 PM

That's great, Diz! Does the 169 vibrate less, after installing the new driveshaft? :IH Trusted Hand:

Diz Jr. 09-28-2009 10:01 PM

ACecil,
It seems really nice now. It wasnt really vibrating to much before but it looked bad when it was spining. Mowed with it tonite. Doing the work to the trunion and new fluid and filter really made a big difference. Really smooth now. :biggrin2.gif:

Thanks RPalmer

Thanks ACecil

Twisting isn't the problems I see on the sleeve hitch adapter. The lack of support on the outside can and will cause the holes to elongate some. The only way I found to cure the problem is to go to support on both sides of your sleeve hitch adapter.

International Harvester design and build a tiller, box blade and a rear blade/rake. All 3 attachments have support on both sides.

Some use a rod that goes between both arms of their sleeve hitch adapter. That helps....rod could bend.

Roblynn 10-02-2009 09:33 AM

Those are GREAT looking cubs there, Diz! :beerchug:

Looks like you keep them shining bright. :IH Trusted Hand:

klejeune 10-02-2009 10:26 AM

I have two used Brinly adapters and both were twisted the exact same way. I bent them back, but expect not too long after using them they will twist back.

Diz Jr. 10-02-2009 11:24 PM

Thanks roblynn. The 169 has fresh paint on the fenders. The camera must not show dirt :biggrin2.gif: The 149 has been doing a lot of mowing this summer and is pretty dusty.
