Sugarmakers new 125

Well I have been teasing you guys about a 125 that was 3/4 mile away from my house. Its in the garage tonight:) I may have to sleep with it:(
It came down this week end
The PO stopped up and said I could pay him Scrap cost for it or it was going to the crusher Monday.
I couldn't take it being junked even though it is VERY rough! So I went and got my sons trailer, and this afternoon went and picked it up. The PO and his son helped me load it. They lifted it with a chain around the grill high enough I could back under it with the trailer. He said he could not pull it out of the barn because all the tires were flat.
This tractor came with a deck which will be for parts only! like the spindles, blades and any hardware. the shell is toast!
Also came with a QA42 snow thrower, in normal non maintained condition.
The 12 Hp is supposed to have been rebuilt by the PO. I see lot of things that don't look right or need work on the engine. Most f the tins are missing. He may have them tucked away. Carb looks bad. spark plug is broken off.all the head bolts look wrong?? muffler is junk.
So I got it home and while still on the trailer. Attached the drag link, Pulled the deck and mule drive off. I also pulled the left front tire and stole one from the 102. put air in the right front of the 125 and it held. Pulled the flat right rear and put on a matching rim and tire that I had from the 102.
Pumped up the left rear and it held.
Gave the tractor a tug and it moved quite easily, rolled right off the trailer like it had just found a new home!:)
Cheryl told me not to put that piece of junk in the garage. I thought she said is was so nice it needed to be in the garage. (guess I need to get my ears checked?) I spun it around slapped the hood on it and rolled in to the garage.
She was real pleased!
I will get some pictures in the next day or so. Its not much to look at. grills gone, seat is junk, tires are mismatched. wiring is toast, fuel system need work. rust in all the right places. This one had not had a bath in years so the pressure washer came out to get some of the junk off it.
The engine rolls over easily and the oil looks brand new. PO said he ran it about 10 seconds and it was rev'ed to high. Looks like the governor spring is way out of whack among many other things. Hoping the engine may have some life left.
I am still working the PO on a #1 trailer that he has too. I want that too, what is a good price for a somewhat rusty #1 dump cart?

Regards,
Chris

Guys,
Some shots of the old blue dash, square fender, 125. (notice how it just fits in the garage next to the 147R under cover)
The serial number is 305903. I will let you guys find the build date for me, please!
Could this be the beginnings of a RED, WHITE, and BLUE cub project? 125R????? Naaaaa!

I hope this is just a "get it runnin" tractor:) But I am starting to like it already! It has the light kit, thats nice! I am hoping that because it sat in a barn and not outside that things may still function. The hydro lever moves! I like the little tool box under the seat. I think the battery may be brand new?
Hood doesn't fit well due to PO putting the gas tank to far to the right side. Looks to be two reinforcement bars added inside the hood to repair the worn hood hinge points. Grill and tins have not arrived yet. choke is seized. Throttle shaft is loose enough to allow Gracie to crawl through. Carb' may be the first thing I look at. Did you notice that the PO did not put the main cover over the fly wheel? He just wanted to get it running! NICE. Wiring is mostly non existent or crumbling.

I surprised myself with how it looked after a rinse and some tires to get it up rolling again. It still needs everything touched! Years and years of neglect!
Wife still says its still a piece of junk:) Well it came within hours of being just that!

I have been busy making maple products! Tonight was a gallon and a half of syrup made into maple candy. If any one is interested we have our Maple Weekend and Maple Taste and Tour Sat and Sunday 10:00 to 4:00. Your all welcome to come! I would love to see some cub folks!!!! We have the sugar house open, and all kinds of maple treats.
Regards,
Chris

Nice 125, Chris! I'm sure, you'll have it running in no time.

IACubCadet 03-19-2012 11:09 PM

Thats a pretty decent cub for its age and the story it has behind it. I hope it works out for ya! I, along with others, have probably brought some worse looking Cubs home then that and made them go again. Good luck!

Nice rescue Sugarmaker!

jbrewer 03-20-2012 06:40 AM

Not bad at all!

That's a good looking little tractor. It's amazing how much better a project looks when it's cleaned (except for the 100 I recently bought!) . That's going to make a nice tractor Chris! Man, that would have been a crime to scrap!

John

PaulS 03-20-2012 10:48 AM

I agree that tractor looks worthwhile to get running again. Since it came in the season if it were mine I would name it sweetness.

jbrewer 03-20-2012 11:59 AM

...and it looks like it's already marking its spot in your garage :-)

Yea I have to look at that spot under it. Hope its not Hytran? This guy had it standing on end for a couple days. It could be just water from the power washing? Thanks guys for the comments! I will have some time to play with it in a couple weeks. I like the name "sweetness"!
Regards,
Chris

Some recent pictures of this 125. I did not do it any good leaving it out side under a tarp for 2 years:(
Maybe with some luck and care it may run and move again. At least its is closer to that garage again.

Chris, sorry I missed your call today. I got it off though. 125 looks like it also needs some TLC, knowing you, you're just the guy for the job:beerchug:

Sugarmaker 06-05-2014 08:22 AM

Todd,
I knew you would get that stubborn PTO off.
This 125 will be a big project.
Too many big tractors in the way.
Regards,
Chris
