My Cub 1000

For starters I am new to Cubs... about three weeks ago I picked up this Cub Cadet 1000. I wasn't looking for another garden tractor at the moment, but I was surfing craigslist, and saw it and realized it was only 2 miles away from my house and came with a mower deck, snow plow, and a Peco rear vacuum. So I went a took a look at it. I told the guy after looking it over that, if I could get the engine to run I would take it home with me. Well after running 12v to the coil, and using a jumper on the starter and a spritz of starting fluid she started and stalled. That was good enough for me. The price was definitely right and it is all original. Along with coming with all of the original manuals, paperwork, and service receipts made it even better. I rebuilt the carb, flushed the gas tank, changed the fuel line, cleaned the battery ground point, and she started right up and runs great. When I tried to drive it I was met with a loud grinding/chattering noise and decided to pull the drive shaft cover to find out that the drive shaft is bent. So I have to fix that but otherwise it is a nice sound original unit. Here are some pictures and a video of it running!

Also! Can anyone please tell me what they think it is worth through a PM. I think I definitely got a deal for the price I paid.

So I pulled the the drive shaft and low and behold it was definitely bent. I also know about the iso mounts. I am replacing them with solid billet one. I also ordered a new hardened drive shaft from Brian miller. I had a friend true up the pressure plates, but he thinks they are too flimsy and he is going to make me new ones (hes a machinist by trade). So when the parts come in I will post pictures until its fixed. I am pulling the engine and cleaning behind the shroud (mouse nest) and then taking off the head to de carbon it and replace the head gasket.

Also, I went to pick up an engine from a guy, and he has 2 cubs there and a K181 off a cub? I am going to buy them when I get some more money in.

The cub 1250 with no hood, but the engine runs, and it a mid mount aerator on it, made of heavy steel, it looks almost like an aftermarket attachment. When I pick it up, I will definitely post pictures of it.

The other cub I don't know what it is but its a narrow frame, I didn't get a good look at it.

If anybody needs parts let me know. I don't need these but I would like to keep the engines and related parts.

Congrats on a getting a sweet package! I'm thinking with some cleaning it will shine like new.:beerchug:

Your extra parts need to be listed in the for sale section of the site. You'll get more views that will lead to sales and it's the forum rules. Read over the for sale rules before you post.

Thanks... I plan on going over the body panels, but the tractor is staying original.

I haven't gotten the other tractors yet. I wasn't advertising for sale... I just said if anyone needs parts let me know. I wasn't looking make money on them, just looking to help out some other people. I'm new here so I apologize.

Nice 1000, you have there!

Sugarmaker 01-19-2012 07:05 PM

I would drive 2 miles to pick that 1000 up too. Not sure what the value is but probably around/ less than $500.
Regards,
Chris

Nice looking 1000 you got. As Chris mentioned, I too would have drove two miles to pick that tractor up. Nice score:ThumbsUp:

I think with adding in the attachments and all of the manuals and paperwork would add to the value a lot. Not to often you fine the recipts to back up what the owner has said.:TwoCents:

Sweet

I especially like the fact that the owner kept all of the original paperwork and documentation. That's pretty rare.

Hey guys thanks for all of the comments on it. Is the seat original? If so I think I will take it off and store it, and get a cheap replacement on for now.

Thanks,
Charles

Charles those six pad seats are hard to find in that great of shape!

A little bit of time with some rubbing compound followed by turtle wax, and that thing will look very very nice.

dieseldan123 01-20-2012 04:44 PM

One of the best scores ive seen in a while! (all new to owner cubs are good scores anyway! :beerchug:) Its great someone took the time to get all the documents to it and the advertisments and keep them stored safely away where nothing could happen to them. Congrats on a super nice 1000 and post some pics of the extras! :beerchug:

CRE1992 01-20-2012 06:37 PM

Thanks again guys. I just got the new alloy stainless 304 drive shaft and solid engine mounts in the mail. Tomorrow I'm removing the engine, and pulling the shroud to clean the mouse nest. I will start reassembling the clutch when I get the new pressure plates in.

You will also need a good clean rag. After it's all put together and running place the rag in your mouth and bite down. You will need to do this so the solid mounted engine doesn't vibrate the fillings out of your teeth:biggrin2:....just kidding. If your going to keep this tractor you may want to look into the OEM mounts. They are a little pricey but everybody seems to think that is the way to go. Nice looking tractor and six pad seat. Good find and have fun with it. That's what it's all about.

CRE1992 01-20-2012 07:16 PM

I talked to quite a few people, and they said because it is only 10hp, the vibrations shouldn't be that bad. I've also had solid mounted kohlers to wheel horses, and the vibrations didn't bother me at all. I am probably going to take the seat off and store it inside, and buy a new universal one for usage.

I tried the non-oem motor mounts and was unhappy with the vibration that I was getting in my 1200. I switched to oem ISO mounts and very little vibration. I can be picky sometimes so maybe you'll have better luck then I did. Your cub your cash do what makes you happy.:beerchug:

ihnick 01-21-2012 02:13 AM

you could compare the 1000 with solid mounts to a 108 im guessing. why would it shake any worse then a 108? if you ask me my 108 is perfectly smoooooooth :beer2:

I want to try the the solid mounts 1 because they are a permanent fix, and 2 I am 19 and in college so I don't have a ton of cash to play with. I am not going to be mowing with this anyways... I have a 72" Dixie Chopper that I mow with. I will only be using this to plow some snow.

How the engine attaches to the frame is the only diffrence I can think of at this time.

Like I said it's your cash and your tractor which makes it your choice.:beerchug: I respect your reasons for putting in the solid mounts What your going to do with it doesn't determine if and how much it shakes.

Please give us follow up feedback on the solid mounts. I hear of people installing them but very little follow up on them.

I feel one thing that is overlooked about the ISO mounts is the fact they are a wearable item like a rag joint or tires.:TwoCents:

CRE1992 01-22-2012 06:21 PM

Okay, so I pulled the 3 pin driver, bushing, and bushing carrier (hub).

Now the bushing doesn't necessarily need to be replaced, however I would like to replace it with a bearing since I am solid mounting the engine. I found the bushing, I am sure it can be had cheaper than what cub sells it for also. Any ideas about replacing it with a bearing?
