what's the gap on the spark plugs for the 1980 982
 

i was thinking of putting in a set of autolite 3246 plugs & was woundering the gap for this motor .thanks bob :bigthink:

I love my autolites! Only plug I use.

My autolites are gaped at .30.

Which engine are you supposed to run a .015" gap because the 2 plugs run in a series electrical circuit!!

.25 and .30 ? Howz bout .025 or .030 ? Quarter inch is a BIG GAP !! :biggrin2:

That is not physically possible. I assume you meant 0.030".

no you want a .025 to .030 thousands gap not a 1/4 inch

Just looked at the service manual and it says .025 so I would set them and run them at .025.

Is that .025 feet or millimeters!!?? :biggrin2:

What would happen if somebody asked about the proper angular rotation of the ground half of the electrodes??



Oh, by the way, What is the best angular rotation of the plug, after I get the gap set to 0.025"?

Shim the plug to allow the rotation to be set so that the angled arm of the electrode allows the open end to be facing dead center of the cylinder for optimum firing of the air fuel mixture. :biggrin2:

Oh no, I put Autolite 3926 plugs in mine. I don't know where I got that number at. Looks like the manual calls for RBN 13Y Chumpions. Help!!!! what plug do I need?:bash2:

72-149, where did you get 3246 at? I went to Auotlite's site and that plug doesn't come up. It says for a 982 with an Onan it should be a 106. I need to see what I have in mine asap.

type in google search "SPARK PLUG CROSS REFRENCE " & type in the crossref. champion rs14yc it will give you a # of plugs to fit that plug of other makers

I just replaced the plugs in my 982 with the 19.9 Onan .The factory Cub manual says RBN 13 Y Champs and the cross on the Autolite web site says 104's.I gapped them at .025 .Thats what I used and it runs great , just what worked for me your results may vary.I took a few pics to send off and make sure I got the right regulator and air cleaner assembly.I'm still sorting out PO ''fixes'' but I'm very happy with how it runs now.
