Diesel oil and filter

Hi All,
What oil is suggested for winter use in the diesel models (1572) and which oil filter make and part number would be the best.
Also is there a manual that would be suggested, I did not get any manuals with my tractor.

Thank you,
Mike

I use Shell Rotella T 15W-40 in my 782D. I had many, many people recommend that to me when I bought the tractor.

Try here for manuals.

Diesel oil

Thanks Matt,
I will get the Rotella oil, I use the 30 weight in my gas engines already. The manual is great info. Do you happen too have the oil filter part number by chance?
Thanks again,
Mike

About the only diesels that don't use 15w40 are Detroits. The 15w40's have all the appropriate diesel fuel additives that are necessary for most diesel engines.
Detroits use straight 30W. Some changes based on weather conditions.

There are 4 major brands that you can rely on...Rotella T, Delo, Mobil and Motorcraft.

If you are a synthetic believer, than use one quart of synthetic for each oil change. Synthetic's major benefit is the fact that it stays on the bearing surfaces during shut downs and for very long periods of non use. Most regular oils will eventually drain off the surfaces after long non use periods.
There are other benefits, but this is the most obvious. This was told to me by an oil company representative years back at a major race.

I *think* the Purolator number is L14459, but that is completely from memory. Verify before you buy one...

Thank you Matt,
I will verify before purchasing any filters.

I too would only use 15w40 Rotella T. Btw when you say Detroits you must be refering to the 2 stroke Detroits. We use SAE 40 in our 2 strokes. If it's a Series 60 or even a Series 50 we still use Rotella 15w40.:American Flag 1:

I use 15w40 rotella and a little bit of Lucas in my 1572. I also suggest the kubota filter or a fleetguard filter. Also to lubriacte the top end of the cylinders and injector and injector pump use lucas fuel treatment int he winter and 2 cycle oil on summer in your fuel.

Rotella 15W40 is good stuff. Used to get 20,000 hrs on my Cats with it before overhaul and the bearings were still in spec. I use it in my Kubota BX as well as my gas engines. As far as filters I like NAPA gold or Wix filters. Just my 2 cents.

I use Rotella T 15w-40 in everything. Makes not having to keep 3 or 4 different weights of oils around. It doesn't hurt gas engines at all. Even my 444 Case calls for 15w-40 in the hydraulic system.

That all depends on what engine it is. Newer motors have very tight tolerances, and if you run that heavy of oil in them you can damage the bearings. The oil is too thick and just opens the bypass valve in the oil pump. Oil starves the bearings.

Oh.... and this thread is from 5 years ago.....
