Custom made - Cub cab
2 Attachment(s)
I am building a cab for my 128 out of 1/2 in electrical conduit ,canvas fabric , clear vinyl , plexiglass. I am tired of freezing cold windchills to plow the drives at 6.45 am to get to work. I have the frame almost complete although I kind of screwed up the door trying to get one last bend and might build another. At under $2 a ten foot stick (took 7 )and purchased the fabric at $1 a yard it is cheap enough , going to assemble it like the t cub plane covering. glue it to the frames and sew some ,heat iron to shrink and paint
The conduit mig welds better than I thought it would, and if you dont weld , a piece of 5/8 allthread inserted in the pipe and epoxyed should be about as good and the gusset wrap with poprivets for the braces, 8 bolts hold it on. posted early pics ,maybe some others would want to build theirs for winter. the store where I bought the fabric has more bolts too. 128 9n mtd |
That looks good! Cool idea! Is it welded solid or are the sections pinned so you can take it apart? Could use velcro on the fabric to attach it to the frame or large snap buttons like on w radiator wind breaker. Good job can't wait to see it when finished!

Nice work green 4 acres :beerchug:

I have all the materials rounded up and have the complete frame ready . I need some warmer weather to glue the fabric and seal with latex
could also double as a shark cage |
Love the shark cage thing:)
Great cab project! Cant wait to see it complete. Was thinking about that if I ever got the snow blower rigged up! You Cub looks green? Its OK! I have a red one, don't tell anyone:) Regards, Chris |

Thought I would post pictures of the cab with it welded up complete. I installed a spot lite and rear view mirror . I want to get it covered and painted tomorrow as temps are going to drop & will lose the chance to do so :Announce: sorry about the sideways pic it just fit better that way.
|
Looks great! Any sewing to be done on this job, or are you going to do it all with glue?
|
glue mostly with armaflex 520 , but will lace to the conduit some and clear vinyl windows , thinking about making engine side covers too -- the door is on the left
|
Good job, it looks good! :beerchug:

SO THE MIRROR IS FOR SHAVING WHILE PLOWING? LOOKS GREAT!!! COULD YOU FIGURE THE SHIPPING COST TO ALBANY NY? I SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH $ WHEN IT'S READY TO GO! |
We don't blow snow in Virginia much, but, CHWNY, couldn't you just use one of those deep umbrella's that got a window in it??
:biggrin2: |

The mirror is for snow plowing , as the earlier pics show the plow is mounted to the 3 pt hitch - plows in reverse - I'm going to put a pair of curb feelers on the plow , just to be safe ! waiting for warmer temps to finish as the glue needs 65-70 to work right :bigthink: |
Looking good :beerchug:
|
Wow, That looks great with the canvas shows the time spent on the framework.
|
Looks pretty good! You do good work! Can't wait to see it finished!
|
Green 4 acres,
Nice looking cab the canvas reminds me of the winter cab we had on the Ford 5000 on the farm. Dad kept it on till about time to bale hay:) I think he liked that engine heat as he got older. You will enjoy being out of the wind! Regard, Chris |
Nice work, it looks good! :beerchug:
|
It's almost complete just need to construct the boot part that covers the lift lever and pop rivet the windshield , also trying to bolt on the new wheels today with snags
|
That looks like a cab should!!
Most cabs look overbuilt to me, this one looks right. |

here is a later picture with the plastic side and rear window vinyl in. the door just setting there . with the cooler & moist weather today the fabric is loose yesterday it set in the sunshine 15min. and I played it like a drum this fabric is what they make bimini boat tops out of .
I was going to seal /paint it as a experiment for covering the flying cub . I am unsure which system I want to try nitrate or poly vinyl or latex paint |
Good job! :beerchug:
|
were did you get the canvas for you cab.

I could see if they have more ,alot of fabric stores around here are closing and dumping their inventory I am thinking about making a tonuea cover for the PU with some here are some 95% done pics . I made it a little tall because I hope to put seat springs on it and just ease of getting in It took 12 hours of work to build maybe but was fun to do I need to build a rear lift link rod before installing the cab 128 thattcher roller plow 5 position snow blade |

cab on 128
2 Attachment(s)
Well here it is setting on the 128. I will have to adust the right side at the bottom as it hits the 26's I put on . It is only approx 20-25lbs and easy to set on. Not to bad getting in and out of either Can't wait to drive it in the rain, snow . may need some duct tape inside and foam pipe insulation to seal up better and door check ,a holder for a quart of hot chocolate & I will be hoping for snow
also thanks for all the positive comments guys :beerchug: |
your tires are on backwards.
|
green 4 acres,
That turned out great. That seem to be the ideal cab for me too. Light weight and functional. Nice job on building it!:beerchug: |
That is a great looking cab. Those 26's look massive on there. Very nice, I think you will have some fun in it. :beerchug:
