Hydraulic Unit on a 123
Just got a complete hydraulic unit and manual. The manual said that I need to cut off the lift handle assembly.....Yikes!!! I hate to cut into original parts. Is this absolutely necessary or is there some other way of getting this hydraulic unit hooked up by slipping the handle assembly off. Of course, I could just buy a second lift handle assembly and cut into it and swap it out.....any other ideas? Also, why does the manual recommend that I drill three holes on the opposite side of my frame, even though no bolts or ancillary parts get attached on the driver's LHS to install this unit. Hydro 67.....can you offer any advice or pictures of your set-up? Thanks!!!

The handle has to be cut off. You can buy a second lift that needs work done to. Any narrow frame lift handle from a 70 to a 147 will work.
My manual says (page 5) you need to drill three 13/32 inch holes on the right side of frame and two 9/32 inch holes (sitting on seat) on the top left side part of the frame (clutch shield bolts to frame). Page 7 has a picture where to drill. I did not drill the 2 extra holes to hold clutch shield to frame on my 100 . |
Ill post all kinds of pictures for you!!!!
There is nothing on the "left" Side of the tractor, sitting in the seat!!,Now Ill be home tonight about 9:30 so between 9:30 and 4:30 am pacific time Ill get the pictures on here for you,Ill also read through my manual.....been a while!! Im like you If there has to be any cutting, changing from factory,Im headed to ebay to buy another to do the chopping on and storing the original part. |

The arm there hooks in with a pin to the little sleeve on top of the "connector" on top of the rod coming out of the ram....ya that made sence!!! Jason |
Oh ya on the shroud ,cover, gaurd thingy you will have to cut it in half so you can hook up the belt to drive the hydraulic unit!!

It looks like your implement lift is modified more than what needs to be done. I have a spare modified implement lift that I will post pictures of tomarrow. What is the tube welded on the clevis assembly that goes on the end of the hydraulic cylinder rod use for? Here are a few pictures of my hydraulic system on my 100: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0100/hyd06.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0100/hyd07.jpg Modified clutch cover: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...20100/H305.jpg |
Thanks guys!!!
Merk and 67 Hydro (Jason)....Thanks for the pictures!! That helps a lot. I'm curious, too, about the tube at the top of the cleavis fitting. Is that for an implement rod? My brochure states that if you have a 42" blade, that the rod will need to be reworked (cut).....is that tube for an implement rod, Jason? I'll need to modify mine to fit....I think. I don't think that I will have to do that with my CW36 snow blower rod, though. It is in the process of being blasted and powder coated.
Merk, I like how you have reworked/modified your shroud. That looks professionally done. Now, I wish my tractor was as cleaned up and reconditioned as much as yours!! I don't think that I will drill those two holes in the shroud either---If it's not broke....don't fix it!!! Jason, the pictures that you showed with the overhead view of the unit were a big help.......particularly the one that showed how you had re-routed your wiring harness, because the manual I have wasn't very clear with respect to how I should re-route the harness. I appreciate your pictures that you took......hope you didn't get too dirty in your good clothes!!! I plan on getting the drill to the metal this weekend if I have time after attending a tractor show in Portland, Indiana......Merk, that's not too far from your stomping ground!!!! Maybe you can make it!!! Thanks again for all of your extra assistance. With much appreciation, Cub Cadet 123:Bowdown2: |
CC123,Merk
ah.....I dont know what the tube is for!!!lol.I assumed it was factory!!I disengauged the "holder" and it lifts up and down what i think is to lift deck,I have never owned nor personally seen a CC mower deck and how it attaches lifts mows ,ect,ect......I would LOVE to have one for the 70 and 123!!!One day.I have a printed install instructions for the Hydraulic lift but have only thumed through it,its the install instructions.I will read it as a bed time story tonight!! Merk,Im in total agreeance i love the way the shield is modified on your tractor http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...7hydro/h13.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...7hydro/h15.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...7hydro/h12.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...7hydro/h14.jpg Obviously mines a home brewed lift system for whatever its suposed to lift from under!!It will be good at scraping the skin off my ankle !! I use it to lift the tiller and plow,it was installed when I bought the tractor(The Hydraulic unit) so the external modifications i cant claim.I did discover an extra hole behind the bracket and tonight was the very first time i removed it from the holder,it waws actually a pain!! This is what I'm using in my 100:

The connection point that goes to hydraulic lift and lift bar attaching plate is welded on. |
Great Help, Great Guys, and Great Tractors!!
Jason, it looks like that cylinder that is welded on your bracket would hold a lift bar for a blade or snow blower, so you may want to leave that on for that kind of attachment. Also, there is a 48" CC123 deck on e-bay (search cub cadet 123) for about $100 and I think that it is in your region (California). I know a guy who has stacks of them, but shipping would probably kill you to get it from Indiana. I've retired mine from mowing (I have a commercial cub zero turn for that) and so my 123 is used for moving my 42" blade for moving mulch or snow and for my 36" snow blower. I hope that you locate a deck soon.........my 123 did do an awesome job at mowing and as you already know, gave a smooth ride!!!
Merk.....thanks for the extra photos on cutting that lift arm down....gulp!!! I can't believe that I am going to cut an original part......this one might hurt and even leave nightmares, but it is for the best I keep telling myself!!!haha..... Cub Cadet 123:American Flag 1: |
More questions on Hydraulic Lift
Okay. I drilled my holes in my frame, attended the tractor and small engine show where I purchased a new lift assembly and now I am stumped on spacers. I read in the manual where I need to have spacers between the frame and hydraulic mounting bracket (holds & supports the hydraulic unit-not cylinder). What size spacers are they 1/2" would be my guess, but I do not know for sure.......anybody else know? Also, I cut my deck lift support off at the correct height, but where do I get that extra bracket that the cleavis attaches to? Is that my old bracket, but modified? Or am I missing a part that I need? Suggestions??? Thanks in advance for the pictures and help!!!! I need to take some pictures and post....don't I? Sorry. I just never think to do that and I'm about 40 miles away at this time.....Yikes!! Hopefully someone will realize what bracket I am talking about.

Super!!!
Thank you RPalmer for the specs. and great photo!! Do you happen to know anything about the lift arm? The manual says "new lift arm". Is that my old lift arm reworked or do I need to acquire a new lift arm for it?
Thanks!! Cub Cadet 123:American Flag 1: |
Cub Cadet 123,
The part you need to weld to your modified lift arm (rock shaft) is NLA. No Longer Available. However you can find the rock shaft with that part already welded on it from one or more of the sponsors listed here. Matt G. just sold one a few weeks back. They are available. While you are checking on parts make sure you have the pump adjusting bracket. It is what allows you to put tension on the pump's belt. I hope this helps. |
Thanks again....
Thank you once again. I will post in the Wanted menu and hope for the best. If you know of anyone, then please let them know of my need to acquire this part.

Cool to see my old thread revived and helping someone else out. To update the info in my old thread, I did contact one of our sponsors who sold me an electric lift rockshaft instead of a hydraulic lift one. I had to modify by spacing it 3/4" further out and it worked just fine. Cub Cadet 123 |
I agree the tube looks like it's for a lift rod for a snowblower/blade.
Merk I like what you did with the clutch cover. Enables the hydro to be used but doesn't leave an obvious gap over the clutch and/or drive shaft. |
