cub cadet 122 wont move...?
hey everybody new to the site i picked up a 122 with a creeper and hydro lift awhile back that the clutch is shot on the shifter was stuck in gear and while trying to yank it out i snapped off the shifter handle. I ordered another and put it on this morning and now all the sudden it wont move i had it driving around my lawn before i changed the shifter and now it acts like the creeper wont engage in high or low range? im stumped, it will go into all gears just fine but the creeper just seems to slide back and forth, is there something inside i did wrong? i just pulled the old shifter out and put the new one in. hopefully someone can give me a hand figuring this out, thanks!:bash2:

Check your drive shaft and make sure the spriol pins haven broke on you. Which handle were you pulling on? The creeper or gear shifter? |
shifter gear, like i said it drove around fine before i changed the shifter is there something internal the creeper connects to that i missed? cause the creeper gear just kinda slides forward and back it feels like it isnt hooked up to anything
The creeper doe have a neutral position, but, you probably "lost" one of those roll pins.

Doesn't matter if you should or not, it can be done. |
CADplans-
Here's a NF creeper decal and a WF decal set (courtesy of CCSPecialties)...where's this "N" you speak of? http://ccspecialties.org/creeperdecal1.jpg http://ccspecialties.org/108decals.jpg polaris_13- Just to clarify, are you talking about the creeper shifter, or the transmission shifter? If the latter, it will not change how the creeper works. If the creeper shift fork is worn, you may have a hard time getting it all the way into either high or low, and it'll pop out of gear when you let out the clutch. If the detent on the right side of the creeper handle is gone or bent, it won't stay engaged, either. And if the creeper handle is not likely all the way in gear unless the handle is at the end of the slot. They are also a bit hard to get to engage at times...you may need to hold pressure on the creeper handle and SLOWLY release the clutch a bit to get the splines to line up so it goes in gear. |
The Cub Cadet "creeper drive unit" is a 2-speed selective high/low gearbox for the NF and WF and QL models. I can't say for certain on 82 series. Never heard of a neutral in a creeper drive for the cubs. I believe my old Crapsman had a neutral tho in the hi/lo drive.

And if anything Matt says isn't correct, the creeper jumps into --- Neutral. Yea it ain't supposed to, but some of these tractors are kind of old and are expected to earn their living, not be babied with constant repairs. Mine are included. The only creeper I have now would have to be held to stay in gear. It is parked. |
There is no neutral on a creeper. Now that it is getting cold....Have you serviced the trans fluid at all? May be water in the tranny.Freezes and you ain't going anywhere.
yeah it hasnt been cold enough for that here yet we have been in the 60's the last 3 days and 40's at night but i did notice condensation inside the trans when i removed the shifter. like i said the clutch was shot but it still moved around in all gears hi and low range and now it acts as if its all in neutral
In that case you need to check for a sheared spirol pin between the driveshaft and transmission input shaft.
10-4 hopefully ill have some time this weekend to tear it back apart and take a look
if im looking at what i think im supposed to be looking at it looks like it isnt sheared, if were talking about where the driveshaft connects into the front of the transmission that roll pin is still in there. what does the creeper lever connect to inside the trans? is it possible something isnt connected in there because the lever feels like it just flops back and forth. id kinda like to have an idea of whats supposed to be going on in there before i tear into it :bigthink:
my old 100 did the same your talking about. i cant remember how exactly it looked but there was a tiny roll pin inside the creeper that made the lever engage the creeper that was broke. so basically with that pin broke, only the lever would move and nothing else. all you got to do is take the creeper off and you should see it inside there if its broken. just my experience speaking.
awsome, at least i dont sound crazy anymore haha ill have to tear into it. taking off the creeper means splitting the tractor in half correct? or is there a top panel i can remove to service it or something?

do i have to tear all my tin off or can i get to it from underneath?
"It looks like it isn't sheared"...that doesn't mean anything. All the pieces would probably stay in there and it would look normal.

Did some looking and found this, saw where in the literature IH says 3 shift positions, direct, neutral and creeper.just my 2cents.
That does not appear in the owner's manuals or service manuals that I have seen. The transaxle is to be used for neutral...if the creeper is used for neutral you're liable to break it since it's not obvious when it is exactly between high and low.
