How rare is a 169, and whats a fair price ?
just like the title says...
Are the 169s real hard to come by ? whats a fair price for one in good condition |
The 169 is the 3rd rarest cub if I remember right (1st is the 800, 2nd ???, 169 is the 3rd, and 73 is the 4th....)....but I may be mistaken:bigthink:. It is difficult to say what a fair price is, as extras add value (like 3 point hitch, lights, snow blower, blade, hub caps, etc.) and location sometimes plays a role in a fair price for one. It all boils down to an agreement between the buyer and seller so that both feel good about the deal when they rest their head on their pillows at night. My shot in the dark for a running 169 would be from $375-$550 in good, but unrestored, shape.

i found one on CL but it has no pictures. im waiting on pictures to come back via email |
There was only 4,005 169's made. They are pretty rare.
|
Rarest production model was the 800, followed by the 169, then the 126......
The mufflers are hard to find and expensive if you find one. The original 16 horse kohler was a 13 fin motor. Even if the muffler is gone and the engine is a replacement, they are still nice tractors. Price always depends on location and what the tractor looks like, runs, etc. Good luck and keep us posted. :beerchug: |
alright ...... who bought the 169 in dacusville on saturday!!???

The 169 in Dacusville, was Rons.im guessing. Hes the only one around here that had one. Also the 102 or 122 that went with it, I gave to him. I bought it for 50 bucks, sold the brinly adapter and hed lights out of it and gave it to him. The 169 needed eng work, no hydro lift and I would have given the 122 to anyone that would have wanted it. He may still be reading the sites, dont know seems I pissed him off at a plow day, dont really care. Allen and Jen met him at the first plow day I think. He came out the road to meet them. He was a real nice guy, one heck of a welder and could make about anything on a lathe. Just had some problems in his life. Its a shame we did a lot of cubbin togeather. |
he said the engine was all fresh rebuilt... dunno what caliber of rebuild....lol any ways, he was a nice guy. I went up today and got a set of harrows from him and some sort of home made box scrape. looked kinda cool... and they were both real cheap.
he said some one from NC drove down yesterday day and bought the 169. I would have got the 169 no questions to have for a project later on.. oh well. the 122 looked pretty rough he wanted 350 for it he said... claimed it ran well, but id have to see it to believe it. |

You were 5 min from my house. Was it a big guy with a green chevy, no hair? If so it was Ron. You could have brought me that deck to sell at the show. |
Wasn't me this time!:biggrin2:
I'm still in downsizing mode! sell! sell! sell! |
Wasn't me, though I was close to biting.... (and yes, it was Ron!)
:-) John (In NC) |
yeah it was a fella named Ron.
Vince, im gonna try and drop that deck off at the shop this week if thats alright. what ever you get for it is good for me. maybe I can get a plow out of it. |
Hey Vince, I remember meeting Ron.
|
He may have gone back threw it, but the last time I saw it he just put rings in it and didnt hone it or bore it. But thats been a few years. Like I said hes a great machinest. He would make the hydro drive couplers for us and did a real nice job. I hope hes doing well now, hate to see he sold his 169. Don Dill more than likely ended up with it. I dont think he had one. He lives in Campabello and has about 300 cubs. He has them stacked up in a shop like in whare house racks. Ive sold him a few over the years.

I thought the 86 was also one of the rarer cubs.
Guess the 169 I have with original muffler and 13 fin block and cozy cab is actually worth something. Don't feel so bad about paying over $500 for a replacement block after the original engine's balance gears wanted to take a vacation and exited the block. Was trying to sell it with a bunch of attachments but got no bites so I guess I am going to keep it. Only cub I have left besides one original and 6 GT's. I have a haban sickle mower I made to fit it, snow thrower, tiller, front blade, 50" deck, brinly plow, brinly disc, brinly cultivator, Chipper Shredder and No. 2 cart. Do need to replace hood hinge and fix headlights. Someday maybe I'll take it apart and repaint it properly. Even has a functioning hour meter and the nealy always missing side shields. |
The 86 is one of the rarer ones. It's in the top five. It goes something like this: 800, 169, 126, 73, 86, 72.......................... At one point in time, I had one of each of all six of these cubs. Now I'm down to an 800 and 169 on this list. The others moved on the new cubbers.:biggrin2: The 169's are nice tractors. Mine is on snowthrower duty each winter. They'll rattle your teeth out, though.
