1641 Hydro service

I just bought a 1641 for my son. The tractor is in good condition with only 486 hours. The seller changed the motor oil and sharpened the blades. This weekend I would like to adjust the valves and service the hydro. Is there an online manual for filter part numbers and type of fluid to use. I perfer to use NAPA products as there is a store close by, anything else is a 20 mile drive. If anyone has any suggestions as to anything else that I should look at before we put this machine to work. I would be happy to listen to your advice. Thanks, eddy622611

Cub Cadet 1641 NAPA hydro filter #1410. Hy-Trans fluid for the hydro can be found at a Case-IH dealer.

NAPA will also carry your air and oil filters along with ignition parts and carb parts. They have a great small engines catalog. I was lucky enough to get one from my local NAPA dealer.

I use the NAPA blue label straight 30 and 10w30 oil and their gold series filter are great(basically WIX filters) I use the FIL-1348 oil filter for my 1872. and as above the 1410 is the hydro filter.

Do you have by Hy-Tran fluid from the dealer? Is there not an acceptable equivalent sold at NAPA? Thanks, eddy622611

Dealer or an IH-Case dealer. Nothing else comes close.

Thanks DX3. Do you know how much it takes. One trip to the big city is bad enough. I don't want to go twice because I didn't buy enough. eddy622611

Two gallon jugs of Hytran Ultra from a Case/IH dealer will cover you or find a Cub Cadet dealer and buy their oil which is the same just put in quart containers for more $.

Thanks for all the help. I just discovered the Techinical Library. If I would have looked around a little before I asked all the information was in there. Thanks again, great site, eddy622611

You really need to hit a Cub dealer for everything. You're going to need a rear cover gasket. The hydro filter is pretty much the same price there as it is at NAPA. For your fluid, it is called "Hydraulic Transmission Fluid" at the cub dealer. If it's that bad of a drive to get to a cub dealer, you can always order it online. http://www.cngco.com/ That place should help you out.

Don't forget a couple of cans of either carb or brake cleaner to clean the gunk out of the rear end housing. That gunk is the moisture that the hy-tran has collected and kept out of circulation in the pump. No other fluid on the market does that. That's why we always recommend Hy-tran.

Its not that bad of a drive. Like most people I have a very busy life and trying to find an extra hour between 8am and 5pm is sometimes hard. I'll make it happen. I just remembered another cub cadet dealer. About the same distance, but they should have everything. Thanks, eddy622611

Looks like I left off the work water in my last post. Hy-tran traps water and turns it into a jelly like substance that sinks to the bottom of the case so it doesn't keep getting circulated through the system.

Went today and picked 2 gallons of Cub Cadet hydro fluid, trans filter and a pair of rocker arm gaskets. They didn't have the rear cover gasket. I called the other dealer and he has one. Tomarrow I stop on the way to my son's ball game. I like give the business thease local guys, but it sure is nice to be able to order 24 hours a day and when you come home from work your parts are sitting on the poarch. I was wondering about cleaning out the housing. Glad you said something. I'll grab a couple of cans of brake clean. Thanks, eddy622611
