What did I do to the Cub today? I changed the seat. Someone had installed a flimsy, foam and vinyl seat that got my butt wet every time I sat down. Not wanting to spend $$$ on another sheet metal seat, I found this cast iron one on ebay. It says "colorado" and there were others, farmall, IOWA, etc but colorado was the cheapest so I went with it lol

seems solid and hey it should outlast sheet metal I would think...

I put a new pair of 24x12-12 ag tires on the 782 then went out and hauled the mini haywagon and Christmas display back up to the house. No traction problem there. :)

782 refresh

I decided to pull the engine and clean behind the tins. This kinda snowballed into pulling all the sheet metal and give her a good cleaning. I will be repairing the trunnion on this one so hopefully all goes well.

I unfortunately had to use the running tractor to drag the non-running one out of the shop to make room for moving supplies. It's now securely tarped between a 1970 Ford pickup and my dad's boat. Poor thing has had more down time than working time.

LOL... two years ago I didnt own a cub cadet. Then I got one to "fix up" which became "restore". Now I have four and use the one running one to drag the others around when they are in the way...

I had a pair of FCub front wheel weights laying around so I put them on the 782 for the new ags.

More like yesterday, but I attempted to take my Original out for a spin. Tightened the drive belt up (need to replace that soon) and pushed it outta the workshop. Snapped a couple photos, then pressed the starter button and...
nothing. Figured it was my ground, because the night before I had made measurements of the engine for another post. The prev. owners of the tractor stored it outside tucked back in the weeds (a father and son, hiding it from the wife/mother :biggrin2:). Figured that sitting outside had rusted the bare metal and when I loosened the ground bolt in order to move the S/G inward for accurate measurements, I had removed what ground it had left.

So I went to unbolting the S/G and its mounts and cleaned everything up good. Back together and... still nothing. Turns out the recent cold snap killed it's battery. Popped another one in and she fired up, but it was a little too dark for a drive.

One thing I seemed to have discovered is that batteries will last longer in cold weather if you disconnect them from the tractor's wiring harness when you park the machine. The battery I put in it was from the 107 and it had of course endured the same cold snap, but it was disconnected from the 107's harness and it still held charge. Even so, wouldn't beat a battery tender or heated garage, but I don't have the luxury of those :biggrin2:

Finally got around to replacing the front tires. I really liked the Vredestein V61 but they didn't fit the budget so I did some research and decided to go with a pair of 4x8's installed on the wide rims. I'm quite pleased, feels like power steering, grips good on turns, looks like a big boy tractor, and was easy on the budget, $62.90 w/tubes, shipping included, for the pair.
