Hi Diesel,

First Great looking machine!

It been a long time since I rebuilt one but has the fly wheel shifted?

I hope you find the answer, I have one for you. What did you use to polish up the air duct (exhaust side).

I'm pulling my 1450 engine this weekend to rebuild since she is burning oil (after 31 yr can't complain) may be a good time to refresh the whole tractor, it in good shape but could use a good going over. I hope it looks as good as your!

dieseldog558,
I know what you mean. Some of those engines vibrate like they have a bent crank.
The 1450 i had vibrated so bad you were seeing double. I replaced the rubber motor mounts with new Cub Cadet mounts. No difference. Snubbers were adjusted correctly. New drive shaft and flex couplers. I used it for 2 years. Shaking the whole time. When i got the 149 i couldn't believe how much smoother it was. I keep the 1450 but very seldom ever used it. When i got the 169 i sold the 1450 the next day. I have removed the balance gears from the 149 and 169 and you couldn't tell any difference. I have drove some quietlines that were pretty smooth. But it seems like most people you talk to complain about the vibration. I never could figure mine out.

My 1200 has a 14 hp out of a 1450. I am thinking it's just the nature of the beasts. My mother in laws 1450 vibrates bad as well when at low idle.My tractor has the lower vibration but if you ever so slightly throttle it up,it seems better. Are you sure you didn't over tighten the ISO mounts? I barely tightened mine and it seemed to help. Another item that was missing on mine was the 2 rubber snubbers that are in the front of the engine rails. They are about 1/2-3/4 inch thick. I noticed them on the 800 we have as well as the 1450 here. Helped a little, but some vibration still exists yet...I too, noticed the big difference between Dustin's 149 and mine. The 149 was way more smoother operating...

My 1650 is the same as bignasty said. Idle it shakes, half its smooth and full its smooth. I wouldn't doubt my mounts are starting to get bad though

thanks guys....i did put it back in...with a diff flywheel....seems to be a smidge better.....at idle its pretty smooth.......mid throttle it vibrates u to death and full throttle its pretty bad as well but better than mid throttle......and like i aid this one doesn't have the balance gears.....i did tighten the motor mounts pretty good...i will go loosen them a bit to see if it helps.....again thank you guys for the help

Something is not right with the motor mounts...with new, OEM motor mounts, the engine should be smooth as glass at full throttle, alright at mid-throttle, and shake you to pieces at idle. Did you do the cradle mod? I'd highly recommend that if you haven't done it...the mounts will last a lot longer. What is making you think the mounts are good? They should be hard and not squashed-looking. If they have ever come in contact with oil and are soft, they're junk.

You need to figure this out soon, or the tractor will probably eat clutch drivers.

Matt.....i did do the cradle upgrade....with the welded in flatbar.....the rubber mounts are used ones and they do look squashed....i did have solid ones in but put the rubber ones back in place.....i was going to try and back off the nuts to see if would help...what do u think?

dieseldog558 03-09-2010 10:52 PM

mike1450....what do you mean by has the flywheel shifted?

Matt G. 03-09-2010 11:02 PM

Try backing them off and see if that helps. Like I said, if they are soft, they're gone. Was there evidence of there ever having been an oil leak?
