Duke,
Thanks for the hint on the ground wire. Yes there so much paint I cant find a bare spot:)
Allen,
Thanks, I need all the support I can get!
- Painted the parts of the PTO today.
- took one of the deck spindles apart. Tapered bearings were toast! I will check at NAPA for new tapered bearings and seals.
- straightened the lifting rod for the snow blower, never know when we might need that.
I am going to the engine shop tomorrow to have them check the K321 for dimensions prior to ordering parts.
Should I use that more expensive Kohler piston or trade it back for more Cub stuff and use a aftermarket piston? The piston was as much as entire aftermarket kit!
Regards,
Chris

147R update 9-13-11

Just a note to let you know I an still alive.
Spent lots of money yesterday on the 147R!
Took the block and crank to the shop for dimensional recheck and evaluation.
Yes crank needs turned -.010.
Kohlers (OEM) piston that I had at +.02 was the ticket.
Left the block and crank and hope to have them back this week. This guy is in Blooming Valley PA (Valley Machine) and had 3-4 Kohler engines setting around.
I have his info if any one needs just P.M. me.
He mentioned that the Sager-town hardware handled a lot of cub parts so I stopped and got the rest of the parts to complete the engine.
Complete gasket set, new exhaust valve, new connecting rod, new governor gear, new cross shaft and nut for governor, I know this was not as cheap as getting the parts on line but was nice to talk to a human!
- Yesterday and this morning was cleaning up the bearings housings, pulleys and spindle cups for the deck spindles and will get new tapered bearings for those from NAPA. Center one seems to be a sealed unit of some type? Cant seem to figure out how to get it apart. Bearings seem Ok after greasing so I will use as is. Until you guys tell me how it comes apart:)
- Have the deck sheet metal up on the saw horses and will start to look at repairing rust holes.
Going to the Albion Fair to enter maple products and honey today. Then garden tractor pulls tonight at 7:00!
Regards,
Chris

Slight miss-communication on the ordering of grease seals for above and below the bearings in the mower deck spindles. Woops! They were about .020 to small on the O.D. and I will take them back and hopefully exchange for correct ones.
Since I was at the fair most of the week not much happened on the 147 this week. Was nice to get away from the project for a couple of days:)
Looking forward to getting the engine back and begin assembly work. In the mean time I have the deck to restore.
I think I am going to move the rear scalping wheel brackets out board 1.5 inches to allow more room for the tires. Lots of rusted out areas to replace/ rebuild on the deck.
hope things are great out there in Cub land!
Regards,
Chris

Looks good Chris!

I do have a question, only because I am not familiar with these model tractors really. Is that a shroud around the cooling fan for the hydro? Is this supposed to make like a wind tunnel? I just haven't seen this before, is this stock?

Mike,
I am not a expert on these have only owned 4 of them. All of them have had this shroud around the fan. I would assume it is a guard as much as anything.
Yea its all stock. Just not Cub Yellow:)
Thanks for taking a look at my project. Not sure how you copied out one picture? Nice move!
PS I did not touch the 147 today. Lots of seat time on the 127 and the 86 too.
Regards,
Chris

:drool2::OMG: I cant believe I missed this so far. You are doing an awesome job on it! That red is looking awesome. I love the front tires too. Congrats on your progress so far and looking forward to more. :beerchug:

Larry,
Some folks may have missed this due to me not posting with a very good title. Thanks for the compliments! I like those tri-ribs also. I bought those prior to having this tractor. I knew I was going to put them on one of the Cubs. I like the look, as many others do with the ag's on the back.
When I bought this trailer load of stuff I was not expecting to get into my first full blown restoration of a 147. But with the help of lots of folks on OCC it has been a lot of fun.
I think I am about 85% complete on this 147 tractor. Hope to have a running tractor by mid October.
I sure have learned a lot about NF Cubs, and met some very nice folks too.
Just went to exchange the bearing seals for the deck spindles. Seems I am going to have to get 45 mm O.D x 25 mm I.D x 6 mm thick seals. Odd that KAMAN could not cross ref the number or the size in a US seal. its a Trostel #473-428-R91.
Hope to get at the deck sheet metal repairs this week.
BTW: This work thing is really cutting into my playing time:)
Regards,
Chris
