Did anyone ever repower with one of these?

J-Mech 04-03-2016 09:49 PM

I don't recall anyone on here doing one, Gene. Several Kohler v-twin repowers.... but none that I can think of with the HF engine.

A couple of guys did it over at the WFM site...seems to be working ok for them....

I wouldn't mess with one of those HF engines. It's a crapshoot if
you get a good one. I know you can get the warrantee (if you want to pay for it)
but I've got better things to do than take an engine out and haul it to HF to
get another. I would go with the tried and proven way, command or Briggs.
Plenty been done with help on here with one. I put a CH20 in the 782 and
couldn't be happier

I need to bump this thread to ask if anyone knows if the larger alternator ( they have 2) from the Honda from which this was cloned will fit, or can be made to fit the twin cylinder Predator. The KT 17 in my 782 just grenaded, and I need a replacement. Running fine, then clang, rattle massive smoke.
I understand from this thread that the original alternator will not support the electric PTO--or is there another work-around for that?

Sorry for the passing of your kt, I don't have an answer to your alternator question, but if you didn't know, a Kohler m-18 is a direct bolt-in for your KT.
There are some good ones still around, and contrary to a mis belief, there are parts avail for the later Magnums, if a person is so inclined to rebuild/repair one.:bigthink:

682 22hp Predator

Hi, I've got a 682 Im repowering with the harbor freight 22hp motor. Got the adapter from the small engine warehouse, and the rest of the job is just basically drilling 4 holes in the mounting plate and using a bunch of washers on the engine mounting holes, and the PTO back bracket mounting bolts. The 1" - 1 1/8" adapter on ebay is needed, also a 1"washer since the end of the pto side of the crank isn't perfect so you need to make the space on the bearing of the pulley. The crank key needs to be shortened quite a bit... Will need a newer style ignition key- which has ground to mag. when on off. Probably some new choke/throttle cables. But all in all a pretty simple swap. Also will either need to modify exhaust or make a hole in the side panel and have it come out the side.

Can you post some pics and more info on the adapter that you got from SEW? Repower looks good so far.

The Green crowd doesn't seem to have a problem with the PTO during Re-Powers...
