Very nice with great effort.
But, I see something green lurking in the background.

Something green...

Pay no attention to that green monster lurking in the background! Somehow that green thing always finds a way to get attention and steal the show...that has got to stop! :beatdeadhorse:

1864 restoration process photos

Here are a few pics showing the progress of the 1864 restoration...

Parts were cleaned and degreased, repaired as needed, pressure blasted, sanded, worn areas built up with welder and ground smooth, primed and top coated with 4 coats of cub cadet yellow 99 paint with reducer and hardener added. Cub cadet and Kohler brand parts were used to replace worn out parts.

This project took awhile, but I had fun and learned a bit more about Cub Cadet tractors in the process...all and all, a good experience!

Very nice! Thanks for sharing those restoration pics. The end result looks great.

Did any 1864's come with that style headlight or is that a custom mod?

1864 headlights

Thanks for the compliments!

Not sure if all 1864 tractors came with the squared off shape in the upper grille panel for the headlights...perhaps some members who are better acquainted with the various models could provide more information on this...

Dad's 1641, purchased new in 1994 had a single rectangular headlight configuration in the upper grille housing with two small bulbs inserted from the back, with a twist to lock them in. I recall there was a piece of foil of some kind to reflect the light forward. This made it look like one wide headlight...which is probably one reason why the "cyclops" reference was given to this style tractor.

The front grille on Dad's tractor had to be replaced, due to damage that could not be repaired while restoring it...unfortunately, new grilles with the older "cyclops" style bulbs were not available, so I upgraded to the newer, dual headlight opening style. To make it look more interesting, I painted the bead around the headlight lens black and designed my own badge between the lights using the "CCC" label that came with my decal set. I'm not sure if this is correct for this tractor, however I like the way it divides the headlight area into two distinct sections...gives it less of a "cyclops" look...

I like this. I considered a new xt3 gsx with blower and cab. I ended up with a used 3165 with snow blower and cab. I also like that you have the social area in the back ground and the cub by the door.

Mark.

Edit. This is in response to Rustyj1 post number #462. Guess the response went to the end.

Got things out and took a photo the other weekend. Time to get the snow blower off and the mower deck on.
