I don't think it has anything to do with the hydro problem but I cannot run the engine now until I fix this problem haha. I got it all apart but now I need to find another one of these keys. What are they called I've been searching for a square key but don't know what to call it.

It's a square key. You can get them at about any hardware store, auto parts store, farm store, cub cadet dealer, tractor dealer, or machine shop. Nothing special. Your can get them in bar stock and cut off what you need if they don't have the correct length. It is a 1/4" X 1/4" X 7/8" keystock. Cub Cadet/IH part #452779-R2

You can still run the engine without the pto. The key is called a woodruff. Make sure it's hardened.

Sorry, I stand corrected. :biggrin2:

The clutch basket sheered the key? That's not good. I can't imagine what would have created enough force to sheer that key. Unless it was already damaged or the wrong material (aluminum? Brass?). You'd think the belts would slip before that happens.
Jonathan, do you have any idea how this might happen? It's an interesting failure. |
Seems, we are chasing two different problems and I am getting confused about the relationship between the two.:bash2:

The generator pulley problem is unrelated to the hydro problem. But because I can't run the engine I'm in the process of fixing the engine first. The key was definitly not the original key and doesn't seem to be hardened steel. It looks like the set screw was loose and sheared it enough to where it won't grab. Just went and got the new key an will be installing it today.
