Here you go. It looks like the pin is nice and snug, but there is slop in the hole where the popper thing goes over the shaft, to and fro and side to side. Replacing that should fix it I think. I’m a little worried about how wet it is too.

Time to remove, clean, inspect, and replace what is needed.

Well I got the poppet off. It’s a little worn.
Attachment 96479 Attachment 96480 Attachment 96481 I was afraid the shaft would be messed up, but it feels smooth, and the hole is good. I had to smack the pin pretty hard to get it out. Attachment 96482 l just replace that for now and I’ll take it apart and clean it or delete it when/if I tear it down to do a proper restore on it. Here we are with the big gas tank strapped down to the right tank mounting bracket. Plenty of room in there, though I had to take out the cross support under the hood. Attachment 96484 |

I got the new poppet from Jeff today and put it in with a slightly thicker washer (the old one was pretty rusty, and it’s snug now, and clicks into hi and lo. Thanks Jeff! That was easy.

Well that was easy!

The little 100 is getting happy. New parts!

Yes, it's getting the "just run baby" treatment. The engine purrs like a kitten and doesn't smoke at all, so that $60 for the engine, plus a chinese clone carb was a pretty good investment. I have to put the clutch retainer springs on it yet and put the one piece tunnel cover on it, and we'll be good to go. I think in the spring, when it gets warmer, I'll strip it down and put new skin on it.

Welp, the poppet didn’t fix it. So it’s rebuild time or remove it time. With the tunnel open I can see the poppet and shaft don’t move when it pops out of gear. So it must be internal.
I’m going to look at a 102 tomorrow that is sand blasted and primed, and complete but in pieces. So maybe the little orphan 100 will donate her heart and lungs to a 102 at some point. I like the 100 but I’m nervous about the whole exposed wheels situation (no fenders). |
