Hi guys,

I just want to take a minute and update the 582 Vanguard re-power. I've only worked on the tractor here and there, so it took longer than I planned, but I've made significant progress. The engine is mounted and 90% of the wiring is done. I'm actually able to drive the tractor now, and I would like to finish the last two pieces of wiring this weekend. I'll post pictures this weekend when I pull it outside - the lighting is poor in my garage and I was too busy driving it this week to take pictures :-) I did attach two pictures of my finished clutch assembly.

I need help with two pieces of wiring and was hoping that someone can offer insight. First, I need to wire in the fuel solenoid. I just ran a hot wire from the battery for now. Any suggestions on what I can tie in to? Second, the PTO clutch plug has two wires and a two connection plug. My original clutch has just one wire. Any suggestions on what the second wire does and whether I can make the clutch work with my current wiring harness? I attached an image of my wiring schematic. The Vanguard engine was practically plug-and-play with the original wiring harness so nothing has been modified. Thanks for any help you can offer!

one of the two wires will be a ground coming from the clutch.

Thanks for the input V30crewcab. Both wires are black. Could it be as simple as grounding one wire to the engine block and plugging the other wire into my PTO switch wire?

Yep, doesn't matter what wire you ground. Let the mowing begin. :beerchug:

Sam, I am not an electric pto expert, but if positive battery is coming from the pto engage switch, wouldn't which wire on his clutch winding pigtail that gets grounded matter?

On the other hand maybe the clutch housing provides ground for the winding but in that case wouldn't it be important which wire gets connected to the switch?

I'm confused by his "both wires are black" comment. Doesn't seem right to me. Perhaps one wire has a tracer stripe that he didn't see.

The PTO is simply an electro magnetic coil so it doesn't mater what wire is powered or wire is grounded.
