I have a 1970 one ton ,4x4, 392, 4 speed. Dana 70 front RA-15 rear. It has hauled lots of stuff, including cub cadets since I bought it in 1975 with only 18,000 miles. This was my wife's grandpa's, but it was 2- wheel drive, 3/4 ton ,345, automatic. Back in 1985 I came across a like new 4 speed still mounted on a low mileage 345. At that time brucer95 (son) and I pulled out the old Borg Warner automatic and made the truck a 4-speed along with a 13" heavy duty clutch . Then about 12 or 15 years ago Bruce told me of a 1970 IH ,one ton 4x4 , for sale (cheap)so I bought it. That old ton only had just over 35,000 miles on it,but the body was really rough beens it had been used at a fertilizer plant since new. We used it as our doner ,using the axles, springs, tranfer case and drive shafts but not the 304 engine. Then a couple of years later we came across a 392 (free), and we rebuilt it and dropped it in, putting the 140,000 mile untouched 345 in retirement. I put a hydralic dump bed in in 1996 and that is real handy. The old truck has been one heck of work horse. I've been asked if I would sell it several times, but no way.

I have another hauler too although it's never hauled a cub cadet. It's 1975 ,4x4,345, automatic that came from the salt free roads of Alabama. 1975 was the last year of the IH pick-up and this one was built 11 days from the last one. This truck is pretty much bone stock except for the front bumper I built. I bought it 1997 with 81,000 miles and only had to rebuild the carb and brakes.

Yesmar those are some beautiful trucks! A one ton IH is on my wish list. Can you post some close up pics of the bumper you built? I'm wanting to make one like it for my F-250.

Thanks dieseldan123, but the 75 is out of state at our cabin. I can get you some pictures later this spring. The main part of the bumper is 2x4x1/4", the headlight guard is 1-1/4" square tubing. If that helps or I can tell you more maybe if you would like until I can get some more pictures.

yesmar,
You win! Those are the best Cub haulers. When I was a kid, my neighbor always had IH pickups. Unfortunately, most of the IH light trucks have rusted away here in the Northeast. Some day I would like to find something like this to replace my F350.

That would be great! I had the inspiration to build a bumper like that after looking at pics of the road train trucks in australia, and thinking how cool the kangaroo gurads were as a kid. Wanting to be different and i take pride in the things i build, verses those that are made of maney compared to me who can buy one out of the box. Only hard part now is to get the steel and make it fit my 99 F-250 styling.
