Congrats on the thunder chicken:biggrin2: turkey hunting is a blast, we look forward to it each spring.
What is that iron your holding? From here it looks like a rifle with muzzle break.

PaulS 11-03-2012 09:39 PM

The rifle is an old heavy barreled Sako 222. It was originally built for bench rest competition but Eric and I both have one we use for turkeys in the fall. The guy with Eric is not really me it is just some old guy we stuck in for me.

ACecil 11-03-2012 10:50 PM

Congrats on your turkey, Eric!

WOW! We would get thrown in jail if we used that here in WI for turkey hunting. No rifles here in WI for turkeys.

Todd, here in PA we are allowed to use them. That and my Grandfather gave us that 222 so it really means a lot to me to use these Sako's.

Rage broad heads.

3 of my friends have switched to & swear by them. I've personally seen the results on about 10 deer & they are super. Deer get hit any where near a vital & they are toast.

Nik,

We use the Grim Reaper broad heads and couldn't be happier. Nothing short of amazing! Picture says it all!
This is a buck I shot a few years ago, he went 30 yards and flipped over from a double lung shot. Shot many a deer with them and never failed. Always opened and fly like a field point.
Great broad head:ThumbsUp:

Nik,

It happens Nik.
I've used the Grim Reaper on deer, coon, turkey and my bear. I have tried many, many broadheads over the years in my crossbow, and they are the only one's I found that fly true each and every shot. No drift. Just like a field point, where other broadheads I've tried you have to tune the bow for the head your hunting with. Practice with field points, then switch to a practice broadhead, not these.
It is hard to find the perfect broadhead, but they are close. Three friends of mine also use them, and we never lost an animal. Shoot true every time.
Three of us use the 1 3/4" cut, and one the 1 1/4" because of the lighter pounds he's pulling. But their still only as good as the person shooting, practice, practice.

Sugarmaker 11-14-2012 08:30 PM

Go ahead Todd, get me all lathered up for deer season with a great shot of that big buck. Never had a problem with the blood! Been helping butcher stuff since I could walk.
I thought for sure you had snuck out and got another big one this season too!
Regards,
Chris

BBD

Big buck down! Went out this afternoon to the bow blind to see what was going on in the neighborhood. Today was the start of the WI firearm season, but this year they (DNR) passed a law that let's one hunt with bow if they choose.
Back up to Nov. 15th. While sitting in this blind I saw, and passed this real nice 3 1/5 year old 9pt. just wasn't the right feeling, or as I like to put it, all the stars and moons were'nt lined up.
But this evening I was sitting listening to all the shooting in the neighborhood and thought, "well I bet the big nine is hangin from someones tree".
So as I watched a doe feed on the food plot, I took out my buck growler for chit's and grins and went through two sequence and all at once the brush was snapping and out he came, the big nine.
Finally after 15 min. or so he was 16 yards and broadside, I was at the ready and left a 2219 arrow and Grim Reaper broadhead fly. The arrow entered his pump station a little higher than I like and didn't go all the way through. But he took off like his feet were on fire and his butt was a catchin'. Never heard the crash, so I started second guessing myself on what I saw. Because most times I either see them drop, or hear them crash.
Well I lit up the phone lines to get my trackers, who were still in the woods hunting at the time and told them the story, and came home to wait till they got here.
Two hours later, my wife Nancy and good friends Pott's (Tracy) and Duke (Terry) went a looking for my deer. We had blood right away, and it got real good after 10 yards. Well they flashed me with the flashlights that it was found, it went between 50 and 75 yards and pilled into a tree. The shot was good, but as I thought a little high, but still got both lungs.
We didn't get a weight yet, but he's 18" inside spread with 25" main beams, real nice deer.
I know it's a long story, but I'm high on life right now, and just wanted to share with you all. Sorry, no pictures till tomorrow, I know, I know.NO PICTURES, IT NEVER HAPPEND:biggrin2: OH, but it did, it did!

Cubcrazy 11-18-2012 07:42 AM

OMG you killed Rudolf! Seriously congrats! :biggrin2:

EricR 11-18-2012 08:03 PM

Nice going there Todd, our rifle season doesn't start till next Monday so no deer hunting till then but congrats to you.

nikster 11-20-2012 10:20 PM

That's one nice buck by anyone's book.

NIK,

zippy1 11-21-2012 01:14 AM

Thanks everyone for the kind words, now it's of to kill Bambi and it's mother. Them fawns make the best burger, nice and sweet.
And the freezer will be full for anothor year. We have friends coming over next week, and the following to help us reduce our doe population. They are eating themselves out of house and home, no brows left to sustain an over population throughout the winter around here.
I started to try and convince my neighbors that things were getting out of hand back years ago, that if the population was not kept in check, we would have hell to pay for not shooting the does. Now try and bring them back down to a managable number ain't happening
They wonder why our bucks racks are getting smaller, and the weights have went down drastically. To many deer the habitat can't support, the bucks antlers suffer because all the nutrition they take in goes to just keep them alive, let alone grow a good set of antlers.
The does suffer to. They end up being bread so late, that the fawns are born late in the spring, that by the time winter rolls around their already behind the 8 ball, so if they don't starve because their the weakest, they sure will become a meal for a yote, not good.
OK, off my soap box for tonight.

nikster 11-21-2012 06:19 PM

Not a soapbox.

Facts are facts, most are ignorant of the true nature of the way it is & consequences of nature.

Those people are just plain ignorant. Not a slanderous slam, they just don't understand.

NIK,

Gotta cull dem'dere does.

Oh, yotes, shoot'em all.

Sugarmaker 11-21-2012 07:53 PM

Todd,
Awesome buck. Maybe I had a premonition your were due to get a big one this year! That broad head sure does the job. Looks like a '06 hit those deer!
Great you took this with a cross bow during gun season too! WOW! I have never tried calling one in. You have some good skills! Good luck filling the freezer!

Went to Missouri for my annual shootin & hunting trip, We bagged 3, 2 YOUNG does & a forkie 4 point.Saw a HUGE 10 point but was walking out to my spot & duhhhhhhh, moment.:bash2:

Here's 2 of them. Picture is a bit mis-leading but that buck was 35lbs. heavier than the doe. All in all it was a GREAT trip, saw mucho turkey's, 1 Bobcat, & 4 VERMIN yote's. The highlight was watching the Bobcat 40yds., off mousing the edge of the woods for about 15min. That was a thrill.

I shot this 10 pointer on Thanksgiving morning. It was quite a scene, he was giving chase to 2 does all over the river bottom I was set up on. He grunted the whole time, and must have ran 2 miles back and forth before the lead doe ran in front of me and he followed, and well you know the rest. The other is a pic of dads (yesmar74) 782 and trailer bringing it home.

Methos 11-25-2012 03:42 PM

Bruce sweets pics and congrats on the buck.:beerchug: I love seeing your dads 782 out there working.:beer2:

This is my son and his 1st deer. He shot this button buck Friday evening from a stand we just put together earlier that day, just down the fencerow from where I shot mine earlier. He made an awesome 64 yard shot with a 12ga. and the little buck crashed about 40-50 yds away. Couldn't be more proud! Once more dads 782 was called to duty.

Methos 11-25-2012 03:47 PM

Bruce he did good! What no pics of the 782 working.:biggrin2:

Cubcrazy 11-25-2012 04:02 PM

Congrats!:beerchug:

brucer95 11-25-2012 04:23 PM
