Hopefully everything goes well for you Tim. Looking forward to the progress and updates.

Oak, Toss 'em into a jug of vinegar for a day or so, then give them the wire wheel treatment and they will look like new again.\I store them in a peanut butter jar with a little WW-40 to slosh them around in every so often.
They keep just fine 'til you are ready to pick one out and use it. I keep 2 containers, one for IH bolts and one for the w/p bolts. These are one of the 1st things I notice on a so called "restored" cub that's on display, that and how much "free play" or lack of it is in the steering assy, with the owners permission of course!! Saw a 169 at Portland last week, "restored" the front axle pin was about to fall out and the owner was in the process of switching the seat out for one that had arm rests commenting that they were worth $125 alone and then wanted to play the "whattle-ya-give-me for it" game. |
Honestly I'm with Tim. I think the guys who get hung up on the IH/WP bolt heads are getting a bit ridiculous. It's a bolt. As long as there is a bolt in place, it's irrelevant what is stamped on the head. I don't think a replaced fastener makes it less "restored" than one that has reworked original bolts. My time is worth more than the time it would take to blast and clean up a bunch of 3/8" bolts that you need a magnifying glass to see what's stamped on them anyway.
Next time I take out an IH or WP bolt, I'm keeping it. When I get a box full, I'm putting them up for sale for you boys to fight over. I'll use your money to buy 3 times the bolts I sold. |
I'll throw a rock at this hornets nest... what oil are you using in the hydro? :biggrin2:

I would like for the debate to end here before this thread gets locked. Everybody is entitled to an opinion and they've been voiced so now it's time to STFU and move on.

So to change the subject...
Do you have a timeline on this bad boy? Just curious to know how soon you are planning to get her all fixed up. Again, looking forward to seeing it progress. I know you said it was going to be a working model. Snow Removal or a Plow Horse? |
