Nah, don't feel that way. Everyone is going to have their own opinion about the value of the cub and that is going to differ among all of us. You prefaced your post as being new to the hobby. No problem. Jonathan is just pointing out a fact. It happens in everything, when new people get into some hobby. Heck, when I was a yute collecting baseball cards and people wanted to collect them as an "investment", the prices skyrocketed in '84, so I stopped collecting as I could no longer afford it. I'm glad you made your statement. I said in my earlier posts that we are going to differ and that is experience talking. No foul, no harm. Jonathan and me don't always agree on everything and that's healthy. In fact, in another thread we just disagreed on something, but he is still a friend of mine and I value his opinion, even if it differs than mine, as I would hope he keeps an open mind enough to value mine even if it differs from his. That's just healthy to have differing opinions and ideas. It was either Patton or MacArthur who said, "If all of us are thinking the same, then none of us are thinking!". Don't worry about bothering Jonathan. The only thing that really bothers him is burnt eggs and sometimes his underwear is too tight!:biggrin2:

Anything is "worth" precisely what it sells for. If it sells for $2500, it's "worth" that by definition.

I'd guess it might sell closer to 2K$ but we'll see. In normalized dollars $2500 today is less than what , the $700-800 they cost new?

I'd still enjoy knowing the backstory. And where the one's Duke did are. :-)

They went to the Chicago area but I have never seen any pics of that machine again. I'm pretty sure Duke doesn't do them anymore.

Yup. Pretty sure there was a post here that showed a pic of them on the trailer heading to the customer, but that's the last I recall seeing of them.

The thing about PC and the finish on the one here (which is indeed beautiful) is that they were never that good out of the factory. There's a pic on the web of a guy shooting IH parts from an overhead crane with a spray gun in hand. There was NOT a lot of high tech process control in the paint. They were tractors after all. I doubt a lot of customers would have been upset of most of it had been painted with a roller!

That's what keeps me on the straight and narrow.:biggrin2:

Listen, like building a hot rod, or a super-souped up, rust free 1973 Chevy Super Custom 30, as I had and done, One - next to NEVER gets 100% back all the money and time put into such a project. I don't choose to spend money on things like my restored '62 Ford Falcon I had, which was the platform for the '64 Mustang. Too much of a loss in returns. Same goes for these IH Cub Cadets. Look at my 1450 thread, you'll see I've easily dropped over $1,000.00 in to it and never touched the engine yet. You really think I can get all my time and money back from it?

While it's perfectly fine that someone is willing to pay a price on items, as the right to sell them for as much money possible, so is someone saying a price is out of whack. I've always been a fan of Wyatt Earp, whom famously said: " You S.O.B's have been looking for a fight and now you can have it!" . Don't let someone "run" you out of Dodge. Stay and enjoy the forum!
