Next I need to address the steering box. The gear, and bearings are fine. I just need to replace the pin.
The Old Pin and the New Pin. I'll let you guess which is which. https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorized...91142602-L.jpg New Pin installed, and tested. Zero slop in the steering! Yep, It's going to need to get sanded and painted too. Plus, I need to shoot the steering box full of grease, but it's solid now. https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorized...6718_HDR-M.jpg |
On to the engine. It has served as home to mice and other little beasts for a while now. Time to evict, and clean up.

Time for this to go. https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorized...7053_HDR-M.jpg Oh boy is this filthy. https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorized...3823_HDR-M.jpg Starter side. I took the starter off, and yeah, it's dirty here too. https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorized...5394_HDR-L.jpg And the front of the engine. https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorized...8269_HDR-L.jpg A bit cleaner. I am getting all the crap out of the fins, and wire brushing it. Then I will take it outside, and and power wash it before I through some paint on it. https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorized...4864_HDR-L.jpg I still have a lot of cleaning to do, but the Stanley Cup is on. |
Let the resurrection begin.:beerchug:
Do you have compressed air, air compressor? Just blow the engine clean first to see if you can get it good enough that way. If not, just remember, "most" times the points get wet, and will need attention, also the water can make bare metal rust pretty fast... Are you pulling the head gasket? Would be a good time to de-carb the head.:bigthink: Good luck.:beerchug: |

Absolutely. I used compressed air to clear it out. I have a full gasket kit for the engine. I don't want to get in and do a rebuild, but I do plan on replacing the head gasket for sure. |
Looks like a very good project tractor! I love the dual stick ql tractors, especially the 1650. They can be super awesome when done right. Good luck!:beerchug:

yeah, I have a 1650 as well, that I got w/o an engine.... got with a package deal, along with the 1200 that I am currently in the middle of the engine rebuild on... originally I thought I was gonna pull the hydraulic lift from and transplant onto my 129,,,,,, but the more I think about it, I think it's worth finding an engine for, been looking. All the Kohlers I have been coming across lately have been the standard base though.... and NO 14s or 16s have come available locally recently other than vertical shaft ones :bash2:
and those are certainly no good.... |
Yeah, I guess these engines are pretty hard to find. I have a 14HP as well, but it is in the 1450 I own, and would rather not cannibalize it. I see 1450's and 1650's come along on Craigslist now and then. It seems that is the best bet. Hope to find one with a good engine, but shot frame or something.

How many 16's do you guys need, I can sell them individually or in bulk.
|
I could use 1 complete one That is rebuildable .
