I would think 1/8 inch steel aircraft guy cable would work great for the "string" It is exceptionally strong and should last a long while, and it is easy to work with. It is readily available at Lowes' etc. I may have to try this.

I don't know if the aircraft cable would do all that great of a job. Most of the cutting happens at the tip. I would guess that after mowing a few minutes or after the first few rocks, the cable would fray at the ends and could give you an uneven cut.

Looks good to me.I appreciate your idea.
Will try it myself this summer. I try mowing in my woods with rocks, low stumps. Hard on mower bearings.I really believe if they work well, you could sell them! Thanks and good luck Tony |

I would highly recommend staying away from aircraft cable. Any impact with a rock will most likely fray or break the cable and send needle-like shards airborn....into unsuspecting pets or children who just may be in the area.....or your own ankle.:bigthink: |
Trimmer string works great for me , I've done this to a push mower , never thought about a rider !:bigthink: may be go full custom & set every thing with rear steer & front drive kind of like a fork lift !

I guess that's a cool idea but it's gonna be a real pain changing out those strings.

I totally dig this idea. I've got more than enough mowing decks laying around. I'm gonna give it a go but I'm going the steel cable route. Will let y'all know how it goes. Thanks for this great idea.
