A 6X6 block will help you set the plow at a depth of 5.5 inches, just about perfect for a 10 inch plow. 4X4 will only get you down 3.5 inches if you adjust the plow according to the book.

Duke thanks for the link, that should help. I will take some measurements. Will look at MS paint as a option for annotating and marking pictures.

DX3, I know I need to set it up for a deeper cut but that will come when we tune it in on some of our Sheffield soil.

I got out in the garage for a couple hours and took the colter off the beam. Roll pin came right out. Not so much for the pivot. I fired up the torch with a large brazing tip, and heated it for a few minutes. Some filing off of burrs and I tapped the pivot bracket off the shaft. Polished the inside of the pivot and the shaft. Reassembled and have it sanded and primed. Much better! sometimes I just have to do things twice:)
I did measure the distance between the tires and its 18 inches. Per the book I think I have it set up Ok.

snow blower time
 

Well the plow came out so well I had the granddaughter help me bring in the snow blower. Addi is almost two:)
I began to disassemble the snow blower last night and the first three metal parts of the frame have been through the rust tank.
Two problems:
1. I broke a portion of the cast pulley trying to get it off about $25 from McMaster Carr.
2. I also broke the left handed thread the moves the tightening plate up and down. Yea I was turning the right way, even used heat and PB but it was froze in the round knob part. If I can get the broken part of the left hand thread out of the knob I can get some new left handed thread rod and rebuild it.
Should have some starting pictures tonight. Not sure I will have this done for use this year?
Just came in to get warmed up and some lunch. (I am supposed to be deer hunting:))

If it was me i would take the paint off, it will pull MUCH better than with paint on it. take it offf with a wire wheel,polish it with some sand paper and put some oil,wax,or pam cooking spray on it,anything to keep the dirt from sticking and prevent rust. Then clean and oil it when you store it. The paint is going to come off anyways,but it will make setup more easy if you take it off now:beerchug:

Thanks cub 123 on the advice on the plow. I have plowed many acres with 2,3, and 4 bottom plows and most just got a good coat of grease at the end of the season.
Allen, Is there a preference to starting a new thread per project or keeping multiple projects in the same thread? I can see advantages/dis advantages both ways. Suggestions?

Several shots of the snow blower before.
 

I wanted to document the locations of the major components prior to taking this snow blower apart. This could be a little picture overload, but you guys always want pictures.:)
This unit had set out side for many years. Most of the bolts and items have came off OK. I have several parts primed and painted. Still have to get the auger out, and lots of clean up.
Having never run one of these I am open for suggestions as to setting up a tractor to run it?
