I might be getting a K301AQS from my buddy's 1250, did we decide this would drop right in to the narrow frame? I'm going to build up my 102 and would rather build a K301 than build my K241. So the only hard part would be the wiring? So doing this we can eliminate the voltage regulator and use the rectifier that's on the engine? What exactly will I need to do this, besides a complete motor, new wiring, and a 4 pin switch? I can't get anything else from his 1250 because hes putting a diesel in it, not parting it out completely.

It will not 'drop in'. The frame has to be modified to possibly clear the starter and also the flywheel. I think starting with the AQS engines the K301 also had the larger flywheel. You will have to use the rectifier on the engine instead of the mechanical one for the starter/generator.
Actually, the simpler thing to do if you're going through the engine would just be to use the 12 hp block, crank, oil pan, etc. with all of the tinwork and flywheel and stuff from the 102. That way you don't have to cut up the tractor and it will look stock. |
Thanks Matt, I was thinking about something like that, though I kinda want to go with the geared starter.

I agree the gear starter is definately a nice improvement. Too bad you didn't have a 1x7 series frame laying around, they were already flared for the larger flywheel.
If you decide to go with the old starter setup maybe we could work a deal on your newfound fywheel and charging system. (though shipping would probably be outragious) |

Notching the frame shouldn't be an issue, and the wiring doesn't look like too much of a pain. I'd definitely want to keep the geared starter.

I beg to differ my dad has a 127 that has the frame factory notched and flared, untill we restored it it was everybit factory.

I have a 107 frame right now and it's not notched or flare for a bigger engine. The reason why IH started the wide frames was to allow the use of 14 hp engines (and 16 hp engines later).
